erice 732
Three people including a child have been saved after a boat hit rocks and started taking on water in the Bay of Islands overnight. Coastguard operations duty officer Johnny Clough said three people and two dogs were on board the 8m craft when it foundered on rocks off the northern tip of Urupukapuka Island just after 1am. A distress beacon was set off which sparked a rescue operation involving coastguard and another nearby vessel. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11787449 good that they had a beacon...........wonder how the nearby vessel got involved? story implies they were brought in after the beacon was set off by coastguard? calling for support on channel 16 at 10pm? while they launched? Dagwood 57
The beacon may have sparked a distress relay call by Maritime NZ or Coastguard if the vessel didn't issue a distress call themselves...
erice 732
if it were me on the rocks at 10pm? first would be radio call quickly followed by red flare, cable-tied to leeward shroud? then setting off epirb
