Crazyhorse 47
About to run a new headsail this summer, the last one chaffed out along the leach from rubbing on the cap shroud wire. Is there anything to stop this? Currently shortening our lifelines so buying new plastic to cover the top line as the old stuff has all but rotted and thought it might be possible to get some extra lenghts and split it to go over the cable then glue it back together again? Island Time 1,253
That's why for cat 1 you can't have plastic over the lifelines. IMO best is the little plastic wheels on the shrouds, and a decent chafe patch on the sails.
Vorpal Blade 89
A clear PVC window plastic velcroed together to make a sock works well. The plastic slides on the stainless and is soft on the sail but will eventually chafe through., when they get too chewed up toss and replace. Compact and and easy to carry a few spares. Island Time 1,253
Burnsco have them. https://www.burnsco.co.nz/shop/boating/yacht-fittings/cockpit-accessories/sail-chafe-protector They also work pretty well on the top lifeline, near the stantions, to stop the headsail catching...
