MarkMT 68
The Sailing World Champs in Aarhus, Denmark just wrapped up today, with no podium places for NZL but 5 top-10 places in 4 out of 11 contested events. A total of 21 NZL boats/boards and 29 sailors competed... https://aarhus2018.sailing.org/results RS:X Men Antonio Cozzolino 51st RS:X Women Veerle Ten Have 52nd Laser Sam Meech 4th Thomas Saunders 14th Andrew McKenzie 28th George Gautrey 32nd Matthew Kempkers 105th Laser Radial Susannah Pyatt 40th Olivia Christie 56th Annabelle Rennie-Younger 106th Finn Josh Junior 4th Andy Maloney 10th 470 Men Paul Snow-Hansen and Daniel Wilcox 12th 470 Women Courtney Reynolds-Smith and Brianna Reynolds-Smith 35th 49er Logan Dunning Beck and Oscar Gunn 7th Isaac McHardie and William McKenzie 17th Josh Porebski and Trent Rippey 18th 49erFX Alexandra Maloney and Molly Meech 8th Nacra 17 Olivia Mackay and Micah WIlkinson 11th Gemma Jones and Jason Saunders 12th Kiteboard Men Sam Bullock 18th FYI, brought to you by the NZ taxpayer... $15.1 million in sailing funding for the current 4 year cycle https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11767553 $3.8M in 2018 out of a total high performance budget of $36M https://hpsnz.org.nz/about-us/news-media/high-performance-reconfirms-core-investment-for-2018 One other point of interest from the video coverage today after the completion of the RS:X races was seeing live footage of KZ-7, NZ's first AC challenger, now under the Danish flag, but still in original livery with New Zealand KZ 7 on the side. Can't give you the exact timestamp yet as the stream is still running but I think it will turn out to be around the 1hr 40 min mark here -
philstar 61
I was watching this with great interest. there was really good coverage of the regatta on face book. By all accounts our sailors seemed to lose out on the luck stakes a little. although some say you make your own luck. It looked like a prick of a place to sail. 90 degree windshifts, calm and choppy and then a huge squall coming through in one of the Finn races which by most accounts should have seen the race abandoned. they were abandoning other races for large windshifts etc.
Ed 143
Seems like Iker Martinez is up to his neck in a rule 69 infraction after being found to have illegally modified his Nacra. My guess is he'll get banned until after the next Olympics at least

Still, if you listen to the commentary in the period leading up to it, they were predicting exactly the shift that occurred, so you can argue it still comes down to skill... https://youtu.be/786GQMOIFzc?list=PL0yLg4wYxxpd3wUyEnHV3N36bMB3YCG55&t=3605
DrWatson 378
From what I can work out, NZ Olympic Medalist Aaron Macintosh coached NED to back-to-back gold and silver in the RS:X Men..
MarkMT 68
Also I believe Bruce Kendall coached GBR's 4th placed women's competitor... at least he was seen greeting her with a hug as she came ashore after the medal race. Would be interesting to know if there are other Kiwis coaching abroad.
JK 28
Recent 420 World Champs & two NZ boys barely in their teens win the Open Champs, not the U17, by a mile - 48 points. That's the spread from 2nd-9th. http://2018worlds.420sailing.org/en/default/races/race-resultsall
MarkMT 68
Wow that is super-impressive. Menzies 13yo won Opti Nationals last year / McGlashan, 15, won Tanner and Tauranga Cups last year.
