Clive 13
Jeez... so what if you have your 10 year Coppercoat/Copperbot/etc on already.
Steve Pope 251
There is a product out called "Econea" that has been getting good write ups in tests done on a sample hull, apparently there is oil based and water based types, the water based prooduct seems to rate considerably higher than the oil based one. The tests are mentioned on the CF site. Havn't heard anything local about it, it is supposed to be OK for alluminium tho.
Bimini Babe 0
The NMTA has said it exempted commercial boats from the bill since its focus is on recreational boats, and exempted boats larger than 65 feet since they are more likely to cruise in warm waters, where copper-free paints may be less effective in preventing bottom growth. Bill 0
Read the article. If you already have 10 year paint on your bottom, it'll be worn out by the time it's illegal to replace it in 2020. That's a ways off. I just had a new barrier coat applied, followed by three coats of Trinidad SR (75% cuprous oxide), all done in a port owned yard in Olympia, Washington's capital. Governor Gregoire was probably sitting about twelve blocks away when she signed the bill. The point is to put pressure on the coating manufacturers to come up with something more effective than copper. California wants it done in three years, Washington is being more reasonable. It's already been done in parts of Europe. Get used to it.
wheels 543
There are many new antifoul products available now. Hempel have a 5yr one that has no copper. It's expensive stuff though and that is the problem I guess. New fancy stuff will or could be expensive. But hopefully last longer.
