Done it already

Big Ruby, Y11 Intergalactics in the Bay of Islands, round the islands race. We'd wriggled our way to the front then rounded one of the islands - forget which one - parked up in the lee and the whole fleet sailed by a boat length either side and we sat there... and sat there..... as the rest did a horizon job on us. We passed one boat off Brampton bouy then it was thru Kent Passage and up the river to finish off KCC.

We were a little down - not much as the Ruby crew were pretty resilient ( meaning bloody rude ) and as we wandered up the river under kite we felt we needed a Defining Moment

L4, I think it was, being bowman at the time suggested the Backwards With Kite Up Maneuver which, after a bit of discussion on how to acshully do it, went extremely smoothly. Ruby also had a rudder that swung right round to avoid tank slapping so instead of creeping round the point with our tails between our legs as the opposition so wrongly suspected we come sweeping in backwards, no main, kite up and all standing on the back of the boat pissing ourselves laughing.

Occasionally defeated - never beaten

We didn't win the contest but we did get our photo in the boating mag
