Farrari 4
For those that haven't seen this on stuff.co.nz http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/digital-living/5458448/Malware-virus-hits-MetService-website The MetService has confirmed visitors to its website in the past few days may have contracted a computer virus from malware hidden in online advertisements on the site. The state-owned enterprise said it became aware of the issue at 8pm last night and immediately shut down the computer server that served up advertisements on its website to prevent more people being infected. Computer users would not necessarily have needed to click on an advertisement to be infected. I'd imagine this has quite a popular web site in the last week or so. It might pay to update to AV definitions and run a manual scan just in case.
Fogg 427
Following the report in Stuff, a Metservice spokesman was reported as adding: "It's that time of the year and we think it was the cold weather that caused our systems to pick up this cold virus - it's been bloody cold here in Wellington, that's for sure. And our server room air-conditioners just kept the server stacks far too cold. We're still not sure whether what we've experienced is really malware or spyware, a worm, a trojan horse or a logicbomb. But either way, it's the first time in more than 70 years that our systems have caught an infection. They should come right again in a few days. Meanwhile, anyone wanting to know the weather forecast should carry on as normal i.e. just look out of the window."
