Scoma 1
Hi All I have to replace the spring in my boom vang the brand is Matrix. Any advice on how to take it apart and any "tricks" I should be aware of?
Farrari 4
I'm not sure what brand mine was but all I had to do was remove it from the boom end, undo the nylon collar retaining screw and winch it out. I'm getting my spring replaced with a gas strut. It means that it shouldn't rust out again and I can get it serviced later on if necessary.
Scoma 1
thanks Farrari. I cannot see retaining screw so I am unsure how to remove the nylon collar. I am a novice at this but learning
PaulR 3
Carefully remove from mast and boom. Take below decks, close main hatch, then disassemble trusting that anything that does spring out, won't go splash
Steve Pope 243
you can get a stainless steel spring wound at the same rate the same as the rusty one you are replacing. There is a firm out east tamaki that will make whatever you want.
Guest
The vang would have been Made by Matrix masts, Now Hall spars, i would be surprised if it had a spring in it, im picking a air strut, will be no pressure issues taking it apart, and the bush - bearing will tap out. let me know if you need a hand to get parts
