khayyam 68
your thoughts, please: we've got a decent #2, but the #1 has seen better days. in almost all conditions, we use the #2 for shape. looking at saturday's forecast for (and, yes, i know: get a good #1!)
Rats 28
When its that light you probably need the extra horsepower a #1 is gonna give you. If its that bagged out why not take it to a sailmaker and have the luff hollowed which tends to flatten the sail and give you a little more time before coughing up for a new one. Given you want to use it Saturday you could possibly rig some sort of cunningham arrangement and with it and the combined halyard tension give the sail a little more oomph than its got right now. Another big one would be sheet size- in 5 knots you could try moving to light air sheets which will help the sail fly and not be weighed down at the clew by heavy sheets. Hope that helps
DrWatson 375
Did you go out and take the old #1? If you're on a 727, I remember holding the number one up to the high teens, and the 2 was pretty slow below ~7knt.
