SloopJohnB 328
This video could be part of a timed distance race. Great footage. Some good ones of G3.

wheels 544
Hmmmm, if I was a certain team about to participate in the coming AC race, I think I would be asking if I could borrow or hire that Green machine.

wheels 544
Dogzilla is faster Maybe, but the French thing is still faster than what they currently have to offer.

Guest
dogzilla would fall apart in those conditions Speaking of falling apart! watch the helmsman in this collision!
Guest
dogzilla would fall apart in those conditions Yes, but Dogzilla is made for much lighter conditions and would be doing 25+ up hill and 40+ reaching in 7-10knts where Ormas are 10-14 uphill and 20 reaching in that air. The Dog is not designed for more that 20knts of air. But it sure will be spectacular watching a 50knt aproach speed dial up. Only 6 more sleeps.
Deep Purple 530
David Barker says there are three types of speed The first is those comes down to fractions of a knot, the difference between 7 and 7.25 that is the difference between winning and losing a race. The fraction of a knot over your competitors that costs squillions of dollars. A boat .25 of a knot faster than the rest of the fleet is FAST even if the whole fleet never breaks 10 knots. These are the most expensive knots. The second can be found chasing ultimate speed. Dogzilla has it, so do boats such has hydro..... and yellow pages and even your local windsurfer, kite boarder. Very very fast but only within a narrow range or controlled conditions. In the larger sizes this is also quite expensive especially when you relate it to useability The third is expressed in time over distance. Average speed that is contollable and sustainable. Crew can walk around, eat, sleep. The bay of islands is a day sail away or maybe half a day. The islands 3 days instead of 5. The boats are kind to their crew but the miles pass by rapidly and you notice it most when you compare distance travelled or to travel over time. G3 has it, Sundreamer has it, Groupama/Banque has it. Your average sled has it. Infidel has it.
Guest
... and a fourth type of speed thats is not measured. that is the speed every dingy sailor seeks to beat another guy and may be considered part of your first example? yet they do it without knowing what speed they are doing!
