  1. Kerikeri Cruising Clubs own news letter: ""Mediterranean Fanworm has been found last week on a licensee ’ s boat when it was haulout for maintenance at Opua. The Fanworm on the vessel were mature & the vessel had been coming & going from our marina. The marina is being checked for Fanworm now itself. This incident highlights our individual responsibility to keep antifoul effective, & to haul out & clean boat hulls if a boat visits infested locations (anywhere south of Tutukaka is a good rule). The cost of clearing the mar
  2. How did the engine run!? Normally putting petrol in a diesel engine will DESTROY it! Being an ether, it burns uncontrolably and very fast with the engine reaching excessive revs and can not be shut off with the fuel pump. Did it once as a kid by accident with an old Fordson Major tractor. Only way I stoped it was stalling it in gear!
  3. Good point Army, sitting in Urquharts Bay we watched the HUGE wash of ship ballast water being pumped out direct into the Bay from some log ship. Where from!? What was in it? Is it tested by Biosecurity prior to discharge? Treated? Another question and this one irks me, all these invasive species, why don't we get things like halibut? Spider crabs? Giant Pacific lobsters? Arctic groupers? No, it's always bloody things you can't or woukdn't dream of eating let alone catching!
  4. We really should be convincing China that ground up fan worm beats tiger pizzle, bear bile and rhino horn!
  5. Totally agree, the horse has bolted. Launched in fan worm infested Fungaray 3 years in a row with the bow heading north armed with our "wash certificate" from Norsand saying we are antifouled and date of launch and not once inspected or asked for it. Marsden Cove has given up paying Andy to dive in the marina to clean it out (she thought the leopard seal was "inquisitive"!)so any boats from there are considered "infected". I know for a fact that most boaties coming north either have given up or can't be bothered cleaning as its inevitable the bloody things will invade. I know for a fact there

  7. Hunting naughty people who stop before clearing in? Don't know what you mean Matt?
  8. Skinny on a Samsung tab A...($$$$..) Signal comes and mostly goes, only G2 here in Pekapeka Bay so must be going through "virus"fone network.

    Gas storage

Yep, typical, lets all reinvent the bloody wheel. Instead of looking at overseas testing, approval and use, good old NZ has to make importers and users leap through the same expensive hoops...all over again just to get filling stations here to use them and they are safer to use in a marine environment. (...making rude noises)

    Gas storage

I think Aussie now fills certified (tested?) composite cylinders. Will eventually come here? They are light, stronger than steel and don't rust!
  11. A bit different! Our keel draws 6 foot 6...for a 29 foot hull!
  12. We offered to pop over with a tad of (duty free) hooch, but turned us down!!!!. Bet they didnt sleep well last night, we didnt, massive electrical storm.
  13. Our neighbours for the night...

    Gas storage

Thats interesting considering we helped some Americans who have those (amazing!! ) fibreglass gas cylinders that gas companies in NZ refuse to fill which I find totally stupid, get theirs filled using a 'jumper' line. Didn't work until we turned the full (kiwi) bottle upside down then the liquid gas flowed. I've, probably for obvious reasons, never tried to run a burner from a bottle on its side or UPSIDE DOWN!? OK, thinking about it, those elcheapo Chinese canister stoves that use lpg have the bottles on their side. Thanks. Got me thinking now!
  15. Bryan Noonan, Nautical in Christchurch. No survey, $5mil liability which is what you will need for marina cover and our boat is timber, built in 1966...and told him we have a still on board. No problem.
  16. Thanks Lats, looks good from a distance...up close? Well, the paint is ON! Rain catcher getting a good workout right now in Pekapeka Bay, Whangaroa and ran the still saturday so now have 7lts of premium export quality Crazyhorse HOOCH...life in the wind and rain (with fresh snapper) isn't too bad!
  17. Yes, epoxy over poly is no problem, but not the other way. We got tired of having to repair our spray dodger so impregnated it with polyester then cloth polyester. Let it cure properly before epoxy. Make sure you wash wipe the surface with isopropyl alcohol prior to glassing with epoxy, removes the wax. We did this. Looks great...well a bit rough but worked now have a solid strong light hard dodger.
  18. The pressure gauge is a good idea, would show when the filter is needing a clean out. First course filter must be for water separation? Easy enough to create something like that and have a switch to hit every now and then to circulate a tank full of fuel through it. Problem(s) solved.
  19. What are those flat things with handles? Where's the outboard?
  20. No contest...old and cranky like me, my grandad built her in 1966 but what a sweet ride! Vote Van de Stadt!
  21. A bit over the top but....a smaller version!?
  22. Yep. Supposedly "wonderous" stuff, cleans injectors, stops clogging, kills bacteria, fillets fish...made in Aussie so the claims might be a little over the top but Dave at All Marine who has a good knowledge of most things marinish said its what the commercial fishes use. Interesting that they say " does not void engine warranty", I bet some dealers would argue that! Best part is it dissolves whats in there to parts so small they will go through a filter, pump and injectors with no harm...yeah right.
  23. All Marine are sending us this stuff: http://fuelmaster.net.au Also a tube of CRC SILICON grease for the other filter we have that leaks. Just need to wait for it now to reach KAEO. The idea of laundering the diesel through a separate pump and filter system I agree would be the long term solution.... next haulout!
  24. Just another note Jon, a lot of FUEL senders do run power into the tank.
