  1. Freshening WSW up the river here in Auckland. Enjoy the ride home!
  2. If you want some appreciation of what it's like to beat to weather in a multi up the Tutukaka Coast, check out these two links - two awesome pieces of drone footage. The guys had absolutely no idea that the drone wasoput there filming it!
  3. are you sure its not still there and you just need a proper "mummies look"!
  4. Oracle - you'll need to be quick - I'm about to close the entries!
  5. Yeh - I'd like to take you up on that - presumably you're no longer in Alacati?!? aranzuglia - I thought so too for a few weeks until I youtube a few different examples. whatever the original sealant will still have significant adhesion to both the hull and the window. You have to break that bond. I sharpened a 1" putty knife slightly and then "tapped" it with a mallet (one very still evening when the moon was high and the tide was bright) between the hull and sealant. There was a bit of rot in the plinth surround timber that was glued onto the main hull laminate and so I was expecting
  6. I've had a few conversations with guys from Sika and they all agree that the screws are no longer needed. There are details about where some recommend that you paint a small strip on the outside of the panel to reduce UV exposure on the sealant, but one guy I spoke to suggested that the sealant should last at least circa 20years no problem and in anycase, redoing this detail after say 15 years is hardly difficult. I have two windows that I'll be redoing in this way. 30mins to remove, 30mins to prep. the boat surface, 30mins to prep and clean the pane, 60mins to set up and re-fit

  8. Cheers guys - yup they're all slightly different to the my one. I'm thinking that the Vetus might be the way to go . . .
  9. bugger - IT can you move this to Tech talk please!
  10. Anyone know what manufacturer this portlight was. Can't seem to find and markings on the frame. Would be nice to replace these as they did not come out very well! overall dims are 447x210mm; cutout 398x162mm - doesn't appear to have a flat spot on the sides so cut out radius 61mm? The closest I can find is the Maxwell/Vetus portlight WP002S which is still quite a bit different. Cutout size (mm): 407 x 162 Cutout radius (mm): 57 Overall size (mm): 425 x 180 http://www.smartmarine.co.nz/products/ventilation-hatches/portlights/50430/vetus-portlight-opening-wp002s-pa4116-162x407mm-
  11. why not a go-pro on a long selfie stick?
  12. f&^#(n priceless! Come on Larry - have at it!
  13. A finer pair of salty dogs you are unlikely to ever meet!
  14. Found this on their site. So the line is continuous through this tube but presumably has a knot below the soft eye/mooring ring so the splice doesn't get sucked into the tube. Presumably the bouy stays in the water.
  15. Tell me more! I love the fergie! Was on the mooring when I bought it. Makes retrieving an absolute doddle in any weather - no boat hooks, leaning through the seagull striker wire etc. Was thinking of revising to something like Freedom's sketch but essentially then fergie sits above the mooring ring which I believe KM is alluding to a better solution above. Was waiting till Hauraki got back up the river but seems I should follow up on KM's note!
  16. That's exactly what will happen - anyone remember the Hobson Bay dinghy wharf - exactly!
  17. tell us your problem KM - well the one you refer to above anyway. Someone here probably has a good answer!
  18. Yup KM that's exactly what I want to do and to be honest after seeing your pics I'm surprised you're not 'up wi' dat'! Yes it will solve. The problem you currently have. VB has me sorted - again - it's a wonder that man makes any money helping everyone out the way he does! If you get in quick he'll probably sort you out the same way. Thanks for the offer BooBoo - Bill advises that GlueGuru is the closestvplace to shop for us mere mortals. Bill - See ya tomorrow - cash and case of holland's finest in hand!
  19. Does anyone have any recommendations? Google suggests that the most common is 3M Super 77 but I can't seem to find it here other than at Warehouse stationary in a small can.
  20. yeh - same thinking as me. I'm thinking of the 20 though because its basically the same block tuned for a little more hp which may come in handy. Some friends are currently repowering a tri up there with a pair of 20's!
  21. Check out Martin Schoon's tacking video - light airs but still achievable. Yup the sheet setup is a pain with little kids. You Don't realise how big the main beam is to a three year old until they get garrotted by a jib sheet having tripped on the main beam on the way back from the front tramp!
  22. Anyone have any experience with the BF series ob's by Honda? The 20hp compares very well cost and weight wise to the yummy 9.9
  23. that reminds me that I must tell my spies further up the hill that the boat is sold. Got a txt about 9pm a Saturday evening about a month ago by them to tell me that my otherwise land based solid dinghy was infact half way to HMB. Perfectly still night with full moon. 10mins later I'm in my wetsuit, pfd, headlamp, waterproof ruck sack with phone, vhf and spare torch paddling frantically out on the p/board to retrieve Long slow tow back! So yes - they are watching!
