  3. Here is a guy who is using a Torqeedo 2 tiller version on 5000 lb yacht, which is onnly about 500 lbs less than mine.   4. I guess If I know I have eff all range, then I will only use the motor when I need it. If I keep the diesel I will probably motor quite a bit more as it's there and I am inherently a lazy basterd, I know I will use it.... I guess you sort of adapt to what you have. My thinking is, if there is wind I should be sailing, and I just use the e-outboard to get in and out of marina where you must have auxiliary power. However,,,,if the wind craps out some sunday and I am 30nm from home then I could well be sending a text to the boss along the lines of "see you tuesday not monday" Always a bloody
  5. Yep the range is crap compared to a diesel. It all depends what I can live with. You pays yer money and makes yer choice I guess... I think the 2 hour range is at full throttle...if you go half that, i.e about 3 knots, then you can travel many more hours before the batteries crap out

  8. Well, I just worked out a near esstimate cost of getting the electric engine, the freight, and customs...it is no longer viable. The cost was astronomical. So, am keeping the diesel unless I find $19K under my pillow all of a sudden from the tooth ferry. Looks like I am going to be a diesel powered yacht for some time to come -- I do believe in the idea though. It's just a pity that NZ is so far away and to get anything down here costs an arm and a leg, plus the exchange rate is currently a bit shitty. Oh well...

Hi, As I am becoming increasingly a bit of a greenie, I am considering changing to an electric inboard motor, which would mean no need for the Beta 14hp that came with the yacht I recently purchased. So, I am putting the 'feelers' out there to see if anyone whom reads this board is interested in a top quality diesel engine. It's only had somewhere between 60-80 hours use, and I just had it serviced a couple weeks ago with no issues apart from routine maintenance stuff.   10. For dumbasses like me, you mean: Motor forward, cleat / bollard off when 'up and down', slowly motor forward again, anchor then frees (hopefully) and THEN use your electric winch. Right?

    Mind you, a few cans of this Rust-o-leum stuff might do the trick, as a lot of my interior has carpet lining...or whatever the heck it is called, on the cabin sides, so it really is just the bulk-heads, wet-locker, and the cabin roof -- and she is only a 26 footer.     Whats the consensus on interior paint for cabin of a GRP sailboat? Will exterior Housepaint acrylics do ok as an interior paint? I was thinking of Dulux weathershield or similar, with a suitable primer / undercoat. I can buy 4 litres of that compared to the marine enamels of same quantity. Thoughts?
