  1. At the risk of contradicting myself. Doesn't the rain thing work because if you are running, the angle of the rain effectively changes from coming straight down to more of an angle, hence more surface area. On that basis my analogy with the rain is wrong. However I am not convinced I am wrong with the speed versus time argument.
  2. If this is theoretical, I would assume there is no difference. It's the same argument about whether you get wetter if you run in the rain. On one hand you spend less time on the water but on the other you cover more ground over that time meaning you are at more risk. One cancels out the other.
  3. Brilliant Idea. Perhaps the remote would be better with the person in the water. With a homing device that takes it to the swimmer and back like Scottie half says
  4. Hi Vorpal I am a surveyor sloshing around in the mud so I think your life of only getting wet rather than wet, covered in mud and constantly wary of going arse over tit is pretty easy !!!!! If you are interested can you PM me. I am not really in a rush but would have liked it before winter, which is why nick pissed me off somewhat.
  5. Hi Vorpal I understand what you are saying, however in this case it's a bit different. Nick came down to the boat and measured things up. He also suggested ways of doing the dodger. He then told me I would have to wait six weeks as he was really busy. I was ok with that and said so. I am sure you can understand that I was a bit grumpy when I waited six weeks only to be told to go away. Whinge over. I am more interested in finding someone who can do it for me. You don't sound interested either Vorpal ?
  6. You should persist. It could be that he just didn't want to do my job.
  7. Hi I've been dealing with Eclipse to get some covers replaced and put a dodger on the boat. He said he was busy but could I wait six weeks. I reluctantly waited. I have been trying to get hold of him for days (mobile, txt, answerphone ) no answer. Finally got a txt tonight : "Not doing anymore work completely over it" It would have been nice if he told me six weeks ago! The upshot is, can anyone recommend someone to do the work. I am in westhaven. The dodger is not straight forward. Cheers
  8. If this guy is as old as you say Jon, I am totally in awe ! However. On the surface I would have to agree with the authorities. (Trust me that's a first for me) If it all turns to custard for him, someone is expected to save him. I don't care about the cost as that is part of being in a society, however somebody's life may be put at risk to save him. gotta admire his courage though.
  9. You would be surprised how much noise the splashing water makes. We were at the Barrier at xmas. On a lovely quiet morning it was louder than the birdsong. I'm reasonably tolerant but it prompted us to move.
  10. They are certainly my pet hate at the moment. I suspect most don't realise how noisy they are away from their boat. As you say, running the damned things in the middle of the day would be much more considerate.
  11. My biggest hate is not so much the party noise but the owners of big launches with generators that start them at 6 in the morning and leave them running all day.
  12. I think the big thing is that the grease won't get washed out easily. I have a boat that spends half it's life underwater so I think it's perfect
  13. Clive that's a brilliant idea, seems obvious when you think about it.

    Gas bottles

I have a couple of gas bottles on the boat (4.5 and 2.25 kg) Ive just been to Caltex fanshawe street. They have reenacted their $15 per bottle minimum charge.($30 for 6kg of gas) Does anybody know where I can get these filled without being rogered?
  16. Totally agree with Rangi. What a lot of clever charlies don't get is that if you screw someone, they will wait forever to screw you back. Nobody wins, least of all the original screwer.
  17. I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets pissed off with the dog s#$t. The other dumb thing westhaven has done on U is the rubbing strip on the loading dock. It was constantly breaking so some bright spark put a hard plastic cap over it. Not a bad idea except that they didn't replace half of the rubbing strip, which effectively makes half the dock unusable.
  18. I remember Ed Hillary commenting on the "went out doing what he loved" theory. He thought it was crap. By definition any climber that was any good would die in their bed. He did have a point! This is in no way a derogatory comment on the death of this poor guy.
  19. Jeez Johnny ! You should know better than listening to Mike the moron. I suspect it wasn't butter and teflon coming out of your radio, more likely from the other end of the food process !!
  20. I can't argue whether you are right or wrong as I have never been to Los Angeles Sundreamer. However I have always found Williams to be a fairly measured commentator. The interview on RNZ is worth listening to as both commentators on the left and right were singing from the same songsheet, which, to me anyway, implies this protest has major traction. Manapouri revisited?
  21. On National radio yesterday, Mike Williams stated that the port in Los Angeles handles one third of all imports into the US. It's footprint is roughly the same size as Auckland's port. Surely that's an indication of how inefficient the use of the port land is. Williams said the main difference between the two ports is that nothing stays at the port in LA. It is railed or trucked straight out. Interesting.
