  1. After a couple of months of boat being in bits and a mess, I am slowly getting things back in order. The new switch panel is nearly all wired. Just a couple of circuits to go and a handle of indicator lights to get wired up. I got the Fuel system all finished today. I have a small pump that will cycle the fuel through the Racor filter for Polishing, plus it can also be used for priming the fuel system, giving just a small amount of pressure to make bleeding the air bubbles out at the various points easy. It can also be used as a back up should the engine mechanical lift pump ever fail. The

    Gas bottles

No not at all. Just a hose or even just a hole is OK, as long as the gas can not drain back into the boat in anyway.
  3. I have been busy wiring in my new swithc board. Wiring always looks like it will be a simple job, but NEVER ends up that way. It's looking goog so far though. I have been wanting to clean the wiring up since we first bought the boat. However in some ways am glad it is 8yrs later, because I have so many differeing ideas on layouts now than I did then. All in all, I am really excited about how it is all coming together.

    Gas bottles

Had alot to do with LPG and it's pressure. It ranges a bit due to temperature, but around 100 to 150PSI in the bottle. The Bottle has a pressure rupture disc to protect it from exploding in a fire and the Tank itself is tested to a far far higher pressure. The big danger is having the Gas leak and then hang around and being heavier than air, it can drop down drains and whatever.

    Gas bottles

Now illegal for a gas bottle to be inside. Make sure you have a locker that has a "drain hole" that can allow any possible Gas leak to drain overboard. Not particularly easy in some boats, but it is a legal requirment. Ali bottles are expensive, but not as prone to corrosion as a painted steel bottle. I think you can buy Galv bottles and they may possibly be better for long lastingness. I don't know why they don't anodise the Ali bottles.
  6. Hot glue?? Dude!!! Get yourself into the 21st century. Super glue. rossd, 18V drill on 12V wil not be as powerful as it could be. It would be like running on a half flat batt. But it would still work and better than nothing.
  7. In the process of doing some major work on the boat. It will take me all winter I expect. Originaly the Genset was rather rushed in installation. So I am installing the plumbing side in a neater layout. For the purpose of trying to make the Genset even quieter, I am reworking the exhaust. Surprisingly a major job. Hopefully next weekend will see that part finished. I have removed and rebiult the Main engines Saltwater cooling pump. While that was off, I figured I would remove the Exhaust riser/mixer and fix a couple of annoying little water weeps. Nothing major with it. It was originaly wl
  8. Easy on guys, your doing far to much on the list in one hit. You're all making me look bad.
  9. They remind me of the recipe for cooking Pukeko. Pluck and Gut Pukeko. Place in large Pot and fill with cold water till well covered. Add Seasoning. Bring to boil and add Leather Boot. Boil well for 2hrs Remove Pot from heat. Remove Pukeko and Boot. Throw Pukeko away and eat Boot. I always have to question just how good a food is when you have to hide it's taste with some other food. i.e, Paua and cream? I had Paua sliced thinly and fried in Garlic. It was much like eating a thinly sliced leather boot fried in Garlic.
  10. Have to agree. Disgusting stuff in my view. Not greatly fussed with that Bootleather called Paua either. It's hmmm, OK, but I don't rave over it.
  11. Arrrr, the missing Safety Shackle trick Huh. Whenever I leant my trailer, it would ALWAYS come back with a missing shackle and often the plug broken. I now have one of those quick release things on the tow hitch that needs no shackle. Problem solved for me at least.
  12. It's still mucking about with Boats mate. Better than being at Home Mowing the lawns. Besides, no much wind today.
  13. Not sure I am achieving a darn thing actually. Every weekend, I go about fixing the exaust on the genset to have another problem occur. I finally got my new SST lift box/muffler finished and fitted today. Started the genny up and she was sweet. Great water flow, real quite, real pleased. Went about having a tidy up while the thing was running and the charger was doing a Equalize. Then I heard a slight chuffy noise in the exhaust. Oh now what. Lifted the hatch, sure enough exhaust fumes. Shut it down, got back down there to find the exhaust had now broken at a weld on another piece of pipe moun

    Handheld Radios

It would be worth asking the Icom seller what kind of deal he can do for however many you need.

    Handheld Radios

There is, but only if you are trying to use it over a large distance, as in triggering a repeater station. No matter what power, VHF is pretty much line of sight. I am assuming the idea is for protection should someone fall in ???? If that is the case, the 5W or 1W would still work over the same line of sigh distance when transmitting from waterlevel. If a person is in the water and wanting to mayday call to Maritime radio, then the extra power mnay possibly help, but that is a hard one to say. Maritimes transmitters are up high. Hence why if you here a converstation on Ch16, you often hear
  16. Kind of merged two long weekends together. Shanson and Team Wheels headed out last Weekend and stayed in various bays. Resulted in circumnavigating Waiheke. Ultimate aim was G Barrier, but the lovely 15kts forecast ended in being nought and a damn hot day with glass like sea. Not willing to motor all the way over there and ended up catching some wind to Coromandle. Tried out a few nice anchorages and this morning we headed back towards Waiheke. Just dropped the pick in Chamberlains bay on the end of Ponui Isl. Lovely. No wind and dang it's hot again.
  17. Squid, that's a darn nice chookhouse. That's flasher than our RNZAF house. How much you asking for rent????
  18. Fitted an electric toilet to the aft cab ensuit. Poured some insulation under the freezer, with a slight mishap that now means the freezer is sitting 50mm higher than it used to and will have to add a 50mm trim to the seating to rais it above the freezer lid Oh well.
  19. Those ratchet spanners are not too expensive now. Or should I say, there are cheap ones as well as expensive available. To add to the list of wonder tools there is also a ring spanner that has the strangest of shaped ring jaws that tightens onto any nut in it's size range. No not self locking. It has a fixed ring jaw and sits lose on the nut, but as you bring it round, the shape of the jaw ends up cominmg against the flat of the nut. And of course, the angle drive, so you can get at a bolt/nut in some tight out of the way place.
  20. Ouch! That is just wrong eh. So what happened? IB, what broke down?
  21. Well I have just ticked off Weekend number 4 of what I was thinking would be a one weekend project of installing my genset. Hopefully next weekend I will have it finished, but i have been saying that for the last three now.
  22. You best upgrade your wiring before you cause a fire. Plus that is why you are only getting 380W. The rest is going into the wire. Instead of a fuse, get a Circuit breaker. A fuse is a waste of power also. It is very unlikely you are desulphating, even though they say it does, but keeping the batteries fully charged certainly stops sulphation. Equalisation charging is the most important thing you can do for your batteries, next to keeping them fully charged, and the solar reg may not have that feature. When in the Marina, you need to do that once a month if you can.
