davec 0
I have an exit block that I want to attach to the mast on a Starling. What sort of rivets should I use and where is a good source in NZ? Thanks
Island Time 1,235
The strongest rivets (also the most expensive!!) are monel. Any of the fastner places have them.

Kevin McCready 83
Be careful of electrolysis between SS and aluminium and other electrolysis. John B 106
Aluminium bolts ? seriously ? Ullrich have monel rivets in a few sizes , be prepared to be shocked at the price per unit , but of course its cheap insurance. You can make washers to isolate the SS from the ali out of ice cream containers or even use tap washers if you have the room.

Task was to attach plastic tube rub rail all around the gunnels of my aluminium dinghy to stop it scratching the big boat. In the end I used SS self-tapping screws. I thought of rivets but didn't know how to use them with washers or whatever to avoid squashing the plastic tubing too much. Keen to know what I could have done.
