This one is mind blowing in both it's ability to waste good coin and at the same time defeat the actual purpose it's intended to do. These little fiefdoms have large powers and budget. These are where all the $100K employees hang out. And the best way for them to justify themselves is to attract more people to their jurisdiction. And to be seen to be making changes, even if they don't make sense. So they put in a new boardwalk, count the extra people using it, and next year get a bigger budget!! Also remember that it is your rates that go pay to create the clear path ready to use infrastructure facilities such as the required roading drainage and the likes free to developers. Yup, folks the big box is back and putting in a major appearance at a waterfront near you much sooner rather than later. Another Orwellian wall of bad taste design and the architectural community should hang their collective heads in shame. The "jewell in the crown" of Aucklands remaining undeveloped waterfront precinct is being plucked off in a piecemeal fashion with little public say and input. John Duthie head of planning for Auckland City for years oversaw and sanctioned some of the simply most appalling redevelopments of the inner city and Mr Dalzell has set his unqualified sites on travelling down the same path. I have banged on in the past about this matter and once again the public is being done in the eye by Waterfront Auckland Inc. Little red toot is locked up in his box permanently and the newish Wynyard bridge is going to have to be removed and replaced by an larger version when these development progresses.
