Adrianp 120
Funny how its looks a similar concept M1 had fitted all those years ago. Does anyone have any photos of M1 with her foils?
Huey 7
Was this from when Craig Partridge re built M1 ? , fascinating followed his building from Gorilla Biscuits and there was always something ticking over in the brain great stuff
Adrianp 120
Nah, Simon Hull and his dad Peter added T foils to M1 that came straight out from the hull. The boat seemed to truck along but broke its rig pretty quickly and I think they had trouble finding someone to build them another rig.
Island Time 1,262
If you watch today's "here's des" on the front page, at the end you will see the design for the next banque populaire (sp?) includes VERY similar type foils. It will be interesting to see how she goes!!
Island Time 1,262
I got sent this to post; Technology has come a long way since then. You could say that M1’s experiment was a victim of caution. Over engineered ( heavy ) and had to be oversize to support the structures. The internal stuff was huge. It had moments of brilliance, and you certainly knew when it was out of whack, or the extension cables broke. The foil section chosen had a small working groove compared to what we know now about a bigger variety of sections, and perhaps a different foil could have been used with more success. But at the end of the day it was all a science experiment for Simon’s farther And you will know now care of destop the mini is a development test bed for the new 60 If not there is more here http://interestingsailboats.blogspot.pt/
