Yacht Selena caught in rough conditions

Recommended Posts

That coast deserves respect regardless of the wind dir, and should be avoided completely in strong conditions if at all possible. The fishermen at Ngawi will tell you that the cost is a natural wind funnel there, and 50-60 knots in cook strait can become 100 or more off the South Wairarapa Coast. They reckon it is not uncommon to have stones 10mm across hit the windows 10 miles out to sea!

Not the time to have an engine failure! No yachts I know of can make ground to weather in those conditions. These guys did OK!
