strath 4
Hi I would like to upgrade the cabin headlining in my Farr 1020. It currently has a fabric lining glued direct to a fixed plywood sub-straight. I would be keen to renew the lining with a vinyl product of some kind. Question; How easy is it and what are the tricks to the glue a new vinyl lining, overhead ? What glue would you use. Or should I be thinking of making up plywood panels that can be fitted and then covered with vinyl in the workshop. Strath
Guest 000
I was aboard a very beautiful Beele pilothouse a while ago. Her headlinings were vinyl over 3mm plywood. The panels were attached to the deck head with Velcro strips. Looked very smart and seemed to me to be a very sensible way of doing it.
Island Time 1,239
The material that is there is likely to be frontrunner. Usually glued on with F2 or similar. To remove it and the glue completely is a pain in the $#@ . The modern way is indeed thin plywood panels covered and velcroed (sp?) to the cabin head. Easy then to conceal cabling for lights etc, and any thru deck fastenings.
marinheiro 352
Be cautious with vinyl headliners, most are very flammable, especially the foam backed stuff.
Marshy 30
Oh come on do it the hard way! - Take it off and fair the roof - it didn't take that long - oh wait yes it did and was a right pain in the butt job - yeah Plywood panels would be the go! From this: Then this after ripping the front bum off, and hitting it with a grinder to remove glue etc. Then many many beers later with many sore arms, a bit of filler on, lots of filler off, itchy arms and a bit of highbuild paint... Battleship 100
The headlining on the old Cav36 was very pretty, Mahogany tends to be quite heavy though.
