Race Ending

Recommended Posts

Took my slow little cruiser in a race a couple of Sundays ago. A gorgeous Wellington day; clear blue sky, 10 knot northerly, chilly. But through the Winter not too many days when it's such a nice day to sail.

But I am always surprised that most people, once they cross the line, immediately drop all rag and head straight into the marina. This when it's usually not even 3 o'clock.

Why do so few not take the opportunity to go for a bit of a stress free sail after they've finished the last race?

A stress free sail gets boring pretty quick for a race crew, also said crew have family commitments etc. so keeping the time on the water as short as possible keeps them coming along as it's easier to justify to the other half.

Respect to the Race Committee, other competitors and organising club? - Getting back to the club for a drink with crew so the prizegiving can be done with all participants rather than only the winner showing? Its a bit rough on the Race committee if people come race, then take off afterwards without returning for prizegiving or post match function...

Or...

Having a boat and a membership an never turning up at the club..

Or, as above, and having a race boat, pull it apart, and never put it back together, never race, and never turning up at the club...

Most race officers would rather see bigger fleets racing that full bars!

Most rear commodores would rather see the reverse.
