eruptn 97
The Coastguard have released the attached info on the pending VHF channel changes that will occur in October this year. Seams to answer all the questions. Looks like the MBIE and Maritime NZ advertising will start soon. Maritime NZ has released a revised/new "Radio Handbook" and two stickers 'VHF Marine Channels' and 'Radio Distress Calling' .. both free on request. I got 100 copies delivered to home yesterday for sending out with this years sailing programme to our members. Plus 100 copies of the Maritime NZ Safer Boating guide. Steve Pope 251
Thanks for the heads up Eruptn, Having just bought a new VHF it gave me a twinge or 2, until I read that all current VHF's shouldn't have any difficulty with the change.
erice 732
1 october 2016, or thereabouts was the change over to the new freq. system i noticed it in auckland when the boats vhf stopped receiving weather on channel 21, and-or weather channel 8, and a scan couldn't find it anywhere else at home the portable vhf found the weather was now on channel 19 next day the boat still couldn't find it, even on channel 19 digging in to the manual found the problem.........at some stage the boat's vhf had switched from "international" to USA and channel 19 is a different freq. there....so until can strip the boat's vhf and find out why the buttons needed to switch back to international are not doing their job, will need to carry the handheld

John B 106
We had a whole thread here a few months ago about how all our old VHFs were going to be dead when this happened.
eruptn 97
No VHF's are going to stop working. You will be using different Chanels that's all.
ScottiE 174
Really? Last I heard - it was so serious that it would cause the earth to no longer be spherical but instead become. . . flat!
