Guest
Its time for the media to find a coroner to recommend that all swimmers be regulated and required to wear government approved floatation.
PaulR 3
Nah. Easier to ban all swimming in waters where you cannot stand up. STOP PRESS: Last Nights News: They are introducing swimming lessons in Northland schools as there was a higher proportion of drownings up there. They were even being taught in Maori!! A new idea! Guest
and sort of compulsory, is each kid must cover 25mts unassisted with no touching the bottom. At the end of this exercise ever child will be issued with a certificate of completion stating that they have participated in the event and tried their very best. After all we cannot discriminate against those children who come from under privileged backgrounds or ethnicities where swimming is not a cultural event. Guest
Nope. A simple pass or fail are the only 2 options, as they should be more often.
wheels 543
Hmm, so a Drowning could more accurately be called a "Did not achieve". Unfortunetly the PC doo good'er can push the body out as many times as they like, but they are never going to get an ''Achieve". And it won't make any difference if they had enough Credits in Basket weaving and getting to Class on time 5 consecutive days in a row, to be able to Cross credit and achieve swimming, they will still be rather Dead. Guest
Do the stats include how many of the drowning deaths were actually able to swim well enough to get their "certificate"? Being able to swim if you are 2 miles out at sea or more isn't going to help you. Same if you are knocked out Wearing a life Jacket is the only thing that will change those odds. Guest
they will still be rather Dead. Precisely old boy and that way only those who learn to swim will survive, there by creating a genetic prevalence to swimming and eventually in 2-300 years time the number of drownings will reduce. This theory is based on the presumption that we will all survive Kens predicted earth quakes and the Mayan end of all things. Guest
Hmm, so a Drowning could more accurately be called a "Did not achieve". Yes that would be correct. Maybe a Merit for f**king up well KR didn't predict a earthquake, he predicted a period in which a big/bigger one was more likely to happen. The big earthquake predicted for yesterday was done so by John Campbell.
Guest
The folks in Chch are pretty shook up this morning after the activity last night. It's easy to predict aftershocks there at the moment, but they had a bit more than usual.
PaulR 3
Previously a 5.1 Quake would of been a major news item, especially in the previously "low quake" ChCh. Even 3+ quakes make headlines in other parts of the country when they occured in the past. However with the recent 6.1(?), does 5.1 pale into a minor tremour. Perhaps the bigger questions is "When was the prediction(s) made " It made say 18 to 30 months ago, in time to be edited and published as a book, and retailed before expiry of it's contents, then that must be interesting at least. Did the chief scientist say there would be "NO" earthquakes So is Ken Ring one up on the scoreboard or knot BTW I have knot read his book nor studied any of his data. My comments purely based on the news media abilities.

Even 3+ quakes make headlines in other parts of the country when they occured in the past. 5.1 might have made a mention in the news depending on where it was. Before the big shake last year, Often 5+'s occuring in Marlborough never made it to news. We would have a good one and wait for the news to see what it was and nothing was reported. Then i found that sometime real small ones would be reported if it was a slow news day. No John Campbell didn't say the 20th, Ken Ring certainly did. I heard him say so and Campbell brough it up because of Rings prediction. Ring said it would be an earthquake bigger than even the September one. He never predicted the September one, but said he had predicted it 3 days after the event. He never predicted the 14th either. Which when he has so many darts to throw at the board, it's a wonder how he actually missed those two events.
