Pacific charts, C Map or Navionics?

Where there was cell reception (before Starlink) I found Google earth a very handy check, particularly in the Yasawas where the charts are very patchy.

You can stitch google earth (and I assume other sources) to your nautical charts on Open CPN

Yep, the sat overlay on Navionics on the iPad, and google earth are all great tools. And between all the sources, you can generally find great info. I'm just keen to get the best charts I can on the B&G plotters, given I'm due for a chart update. The C Map is from about 2017, and the whole Somo Somo Straight & Taveuni area is a big blur!

The best program we had in 17 and 19 was ovitalmap. What it did was cache whatever you looked at down through the layers when in wifi or cell coverage. I did that at home in NZ for every place I thought we'd visit in Tonga and Fiji. Then I had Google earth with our position on it without using cell or wifi. Unfortunately they were using Google and Bing without permission and they were copywrited out and are now prevented from using it.

We went with navionics on our old 2009 plotter and isailor on tablet, funnily enough our navionics was really good but some of the boats with the updated plotter were out up to a mile.

The only place we would have any trouble was Tavieuni right on the 180 longitude. Isailor would whip a track right around the world each time we crossed it and the only place Google earth via ovitalmap was out was Albert cove... about 50 metres.

I'm yet to find out if there has been anything as good or as easy as ovitalmap, maybe it's all just live through starlink now.
