Spinnaker sheets

I would appreciate your views on how long should a spinnaker sheet be for a 10meter yacht,

I have heard the rule that kite sheets should be twice the length of the boat.. or around that

That's a pretty good guide, but depends on allot of variables including boat type, spin pole length etc, but assuming we are talking spins not gennakers, just put the pole up on the forestay and the spin sheet should be long enough to reach from where the bag is prior to hoist through the pole, through the tweaker back to the block round the winch a few times and a couple of meters of tail, just grab an old sheet or even join a couple together run it through mark where it is long enough and measure can't go wrong.

Don't forget to put the jockey pole on if you have one and allow plenty of slack or the foredeck will hate you.

and if you drop to the main hatch i.e a letter box drop. having it go from there, around the forestay/pole and back to the block/winch can save re running the sheets after each drop. 2 lengths of the boat is good.

Exactly, better off measuring IMHO on some boats 2xL may not be enough.

Consider what type of racing you are doing.

 

If you do a lot of W/L racing with passing all marks to port, then having a longer starboard sheet (and guy) can be helpful and allow for easier hatch hoisting. Adding a thinner tail to the starboard sheet (and guy) also works.

 

So Startboard sheet = 2.25 x LOA

and Port sheet = 1.75 x LOA

 

all for the same cost!! (or 2.2 and 1.8 x LOA etc)
