Squab covering material

A dark colored micro swuade I reckon is best. We just did all ours with ultrahyde, its a high quality synthetic leather. It looks pretty good but I still think micro swuade is the best for both the look and feel.

Are these both waterproof or do they need some kind of barrier to stop the foam getting wet?

Presume you're not asking re the the vinyl (it is waterproof) but just to note that what we used has a faux leather look and is also very soft, so comfortable.

Make sure you use a good seam sealant on the stitching. Often pays to use an open weave fabric on the bottom to allow the foam to drain in case it does get soaked (which it often does regardless of how well made)

I have a need for some Sunbrella, anyone know who stocks it? Did look on line, was a while back, to no avail?

Good idea to stick with a medium weight water proof stuff. Children, fabric and salt water not a good mix.

I still have quite a bit of fabric left over from mine probably 5+ meters. Its stone grey ultrahyde, really nice stuff and I got it pretty cheap. I'm in birkenhead if you want to have a look.

I got some sunbrella from these guys recently. Very quick service.

The one thing I have not been able to find online yet is clear vinyl (for dodger). Anyone know of any online retailer?

I got some clear from Gourock in Patiki Road, Avondale. Was a while back, and I think they were moving, so let your fingers do the walking first.

There was a place just off Central Park Drive in Henderson who did sunbrella fabrics and fittings too. Very reasonable prices. Made my own dodger for around $120 all up.

Pays to shop around - I went to 3 specialist marine squab/bimini places and got quotes for a very simple item - then went to 2 x different canvas tent makers for a quote. Wasn't in a hurry for it so thought I'd get some quotes and check out the differences.

I specified sunbrella.

Prices ranged from $240 to $95.

Guess which one I went with....................

To be fair, the lowest price guy had a piece of sunbrella left over from another job - so somebody else helped me pay for that bit

It was the labour costs that were the difference in the main although some charged more for sunbrella than others.

I do like to be loyal to the same suppliers but sometimes................

Cheers. I been lent/given an industrial machine so it was a learning curve, and I'll know more next time. Though the next project will be the sail cover, which doesnt look too hard.
