Guest
19 boats set off under clear sunny skies at 1930 this evening. The starters were: Alize Am-Meer Blackout Blue Magic Fulmar Gucci Illusions Jet Jive Talkin' Montego Bay III Mrs Jones Nedax Racing Oldsmobile Ran Tan II Revs Spirit The Guarantee The Racing Yacht Wai-Aniwa Wedgetail The final Friday Afternoon weather update from the Naviguesser on board Nedax read: Weather run is attached . Similar to yesterday .. Depart on a dying southerly which will frump out as we approach the brothers ..Swings west then to Nw but really light +/- 2.5knots so could be very variable. Real NW develops around 0330 -0430 builds to 15knots around 0600 by which time we should be approaching Jag rocks Pushing tide unitl we round Stephens around 0930. expect 20 knots could be very westerley pushing 0.5 knot of tide Once in Tasman bay wind should move more Nw and increase in strength as it dials north up to 25knots The further into Tasman bay we get the more the NW dials north and winds start to ease back to 20 . Outside Croisilles we may pop a A5 or Fro.... Until Boulder bank where it drops to 15 and wind goes further aft Finish at 1530 beers open at 1600 Of course the above is all subject to Huey playing nice. No correspondence will be entered into. PeteG 13
Obviously a really slow race so far. Pretty happy not to be out there. In Nelson this morning it has been dead calm. My forecast from work is for strong and gusty SW - no mention of the NW or seabreeze. Interestingly in the last 5 minutes a light SW has just started up in Richmond. Might be a long ride down from Stephens!

Guest
The racing yacht Wai-aniwa is campaigned hard in Wellington. Does all the inshore and most of the offshore campaign.
Guest
1220 sched is in. Alize has withdrawn - pulled out of race at 1011 nzdt in position due to weather conditions, now heading for Queen Charlotte Sound. All ok on board. Latest report is safe in Punga Cove. No reply from Blue Magic. Fulmar 1151 nzdt called Picton Maritime Radio to advise that position 1/2 way between Cape Lambert, and Aligator Head, heading to club mooring in Annie Bay due to a blown reef and problems with the mainsail. Eta mooring 45 - 60 minutes, nothing can't handle. Spirit: 1249 nzdt Withdrawing and will head to Nelson via French Pass. Presently off Clay Point. Multiple reasons for withdrawing but nothing serious.
Guest
Maritime Radio also added to their Sched email: I have been asked to make the following announcement at 1820 nzdt sked to your yachts by Nelson Marina. If you are in touch with any of the yachts yourself before then, could you do the same. From Nelson Marina: Please ask all yachts in the yacht race that have not had berths allocated to contact Nelson Marina to arrange a berth via: CH73 or 03 546 7768 or 027 246 553. Guest
Maritime Ops reports: We have had a transmission at 1630 nzdt today from Blue Magic ZM6667 that they would like to officially withdraw from the Wellington Nelson yacht race. We have tried to call Matt Birchall and left a message on his cell phone to call us back. As yet we have had no reply from him. Hence this email to advise you as per a request from the skipper. Details as below: Blue Magic had engine trouble and have been unable to communicate on radio as the battery had gone out. They now have the engine started and managed to start charging the battery. They wish to notify that they have withdrawn from the race and would like MOC to contact the organisers to let them know. They have contacted the D'urville Wilderness Cafe (Catherine Cove as per Google search) and are now secured to a strong commercial mooring in that bay, as they are expecting strong weather. The crew are all safe and okay. MOC asked whether they required any assistance to which they replied no.

B00B00 310
Epic race. Had a bit of everything. Frustrating at times and very tactical. We had a great race on nedax( thompson 30). 3rd boat on line. Beat revs (ross 40) by a few minutes, jive talking and the gurantee (ross 1066) on line, not bad for a 30fter. Jugs of rum flowing at the tasman bay cruising club as allways. Looking forward to the regatta tomorrow.

Guest
No problem Deb, happy to help out... The start went smoothly, but with the Rum race approaching to finish as we were in the start sequence I was getting slightly worried the finish and the start would coincide... but the first boat finished the Rum Race 3 minutes after the Nelson race got away... which was close to perfection in the end.
