foiling upwind

Scuttlebutt has it that ETNZ in their last training session were foiling upwind with good VMG and a boat speed of 32knots. That would be interesting to produce on demand.

No team has successfully foiled upwind for more that a few moments after a mark rounding. And in extreme bear away situations.

I just came back to see the enormousness of the error in this statement, not being nasty just having a chuckle. :P

Saw 34 knots today on OR upwind. Wow that's fast.

My guess is ORs aero package really starts to pay off over 50knots apparent.

ETNZ sitting on 30 is not to bad either

We have 2 more race rays of EBB tide then back to Flood for the rest of the regatta

Lets hope for 17 or less or RD will have a bit on

well lets just say our 'friend' has been wrong on many points about this event...... luckily he is terrorising the SA forums these days.......

Is he either the twin of or actually the artist formally known as Between the sheets, formally known as Summer Breeze? Or is he just strikingly familiar in his ways?

And he is still spouting the same sh*t as always.....

Consistant failure! The LVC is like the semifinals in a world cup. no AC win!.

How about you name all the wins in the last ten year?... front up dude.

oracles record is better, RC,s is better as a sailor and manager. Than ETNZ and GD/DB.

Words are cheap...bro!:-)

And even more of the same sh*t........ This is all posted today too.

ETNZ is not the class act in every regatta. They have failed at every AC so far!

Since the "bucket to Bail" bullshit defense loss they have turned up but not taken the prize.

If you are honest you would say they are only good now thanks to a new class where the defender has no advantage, the class is in development for everyone, and a very poor Challenger series.

You can say for sure ETNZ fronts up. But fronting up and winning the AC are two different things.

eTNZ has never won the cup! TNZ with RC has and DB benefited from RC,s foresight to give him a token race at the last defence. But Barker and co have only ever LOST the AC.

Happy for him to stay there.

No Booboo it does'not.

I thought as you did too but whatever attachment to the headboard must surely be loading the masthead and sheave pin the same amount.

Sure there is extra friction when the rope is moving thru the shackle but when stopped it is all same.

As for the shroud base issue. I understand the width/ loading numbers but when practical assessment is considered to a narrow yacht where the beam differences are so small and the dissection angles of attachment of the stays are so minimal there is bugger all difference in compression calcs.

In a cat it would count and yeas on a back stay on a fractional rig it would but with all stays on all boats there is an opposing stay converting the pull into compression.

Its basic maths that a wider side stay angle will reduce compression for a given side load. Are you retarded?
