  1. I see Bryan Leyland is on the Westhaven Marina Users Association. I think I am still a member and if not will join again. It would be interesting to get Bryan's view on this as an electrical engineer. I will see if I can make contact.
  2. I thought the marina connection had a residual current device in it? In any event the box we now have to have does have a residual current device. It is in many respects a safer connection than most houses in NZ which a suitable to be connected 24 hours per day! Mine is running my battery charger and I have always taken some comfort from the thought that the connection could keep the bilge pumps running should anything happen in the marina. Funny as I was just looking at a flexible solar panel in the weekend, maybe that will be a purchase soon.
  3. Hi, can anyone recommend someone to work on an engine driven compressor fridge/freezer setup? Boat is at westhaven, seems to have lost the gas (so hole somewhere). York compressor. Cheers,
  4. Here is a link to the 2014 drowning statistics. http://www.drownbase.org.nz/assets/Annual-Drowning-Reports/2014-Drowning-Report-web-copy.pdf Not sure why 2015 is not available. Most deaths are in inland still water, tidal and rivers. Powerboats out drown yachts, but I assume that is driven by fizz boats (sorry I am an ex-yachtie and now launch owner). I think we should raise this with the Auckland ratepayers association or the NZ Taxpayers Union. Both are entities that like fighting against stupidity.
  5. Having just has my boat out for antifoul at Pier 21, if you have not already booked for a lift/new antifoul etc you will not be getting out of the water there before Christmas. I booked and had to wait 8 weeks for a slot!
  6. If you believe that they have agreed to fix prices then you can easily lay a complaint with the Commerce Commission. You can even do it online. You would be surprised how many businesses and business people do not understand the Commerce Act. A company can not indemnify you as an employee of you break the Act and consequently you can be fined as an individual quite significant sums.
  7. The co-governance model is being quietly rolled out across NZ. A particular interpretation of the intent of the Treaty that circumvents democracy. It will be extremely difficult to undo. I am not sure Maori even understand what or how 'their' representatives come to be in these governance positions.

Found a council hazard report. Also says power comes from Maraetai. No mention of where the telephone cables are but I found this: nfrastructureThe island has less infrastructure than mainland Auckland. The roads are mainly narrow and in many places unsealed and unlit, especially on the eastern half of the island. The Waiheke Bus Company (owned by Fullers) services most inhabited parts of the island, linking to the ferry sailings from Matiatia. Waiheke is connected to the North Island’s electricity network via twin 33 kV undersea cables from Maraetai on the mainland, terminating on the

If it is a power cable it will belong to Vector. According to their website they do not have any cables in the bay. https://vector.co.nz/documents/101943/102620/Vector+submarine+cable+locations.pdf/cbe671f4-2d18-4195-a551-c83a2eac1205 I cant find where the telephone cables run. If these are discussed power cables then surely they should only be marked as a hazard? I find it astounding that neither of the official parties can be bothered working out if they are there and used.
  10. Used Canopy and Squab for full cover replacement. Very fast and quality work.
  11. All solved, thanks for the suggestions. There was a bit of a digit transposition error. Just as well it was noticed before I had 40cm chopped off! Cheers
  12. Hi, I am looking for a quality boat builder to modify our launch (yes launch) bowsprit as we have been informed we exceed our Westhaven marina berth by 40cm (inside the poles, but apparently that does not count). looking to make it hinged or similar. Please reply here or contact Neil on 0212263112 Cheers
