  2. Surely a decent waxing of the hull every year is the best answer. I recall Mr Marine would do this religiously every year with Double Diamond and she always looked mint.
  3. found mine. Have both the feeder (305) and mast connecting panel (306)
  4. Think I've got one lying around from when I first bought the GBE. Will see if I can find it for ya over the weekend
  5. Fish - yawn - got bored after line 1. IT - that's just perfect. Sailor exercised his first review, YNZ sent it upstairs (that in itself is worthy of recognition on our forum) and . . . That's pretty much it!
  6. Wow - didn't think posting this would extract such debate. The only thing that struck me as unacceptable (and the reason for posting) was the inspector's apparent refusal to document his reasons for his decision. Our judicial system allows for judicial review of such a decision - YNZ wouldn't last 5 mins in front of a judge with this conduct. If indeed it is an accurate account of events.
  7. Anyone else seen this? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1070664127
  8. That gents and ladies is just brilliant - well done. Now if you could all just sign up for the 2up in the coastal as well we'll offer you a bulk discount!
  9. I looked over another turissimo at the weekend and they were able to turn their cunningham onto the boom (cheek block was on the mast from memory) and could then use the boom mounted winch to crank on it seemed to work well for them. Looks like you'd have enough height between tack and 'gooseneck' to look at that as an opton?

I'd like to see a commentary written on the reason for each rule, particularly for each rule change. We have this in structural engineering codes (for example) and it provides a; a useful understanding of the reasons for otherwise seemingly 'nonsensical' rules, b; enables the 'affected public' to provide critical feedback rather than just relying purely on the observations of inspectors, and c; ensures that legacy rules can be 'pulled' if no longer relevant. In fact if you're serious about wanting issues raised by the public then the revised text should be published 'draft for comment' to
  11. Jolly good - was a wharram that I remember seeing on TM a while back, yellow with a biggish central structure. Come to think of it - it might have been a tangaroa
  12. Was the you drying out in Okahu today?

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11613429 Updated story above. The article says that Police previously reported that the crew were not wearing life jackets - could mean anything in the context of NZ's tabloid journos! Council is investigating all aspects of the accident - for lots of different reasons. Probably best to let it play out over the next few weeks before jumping on too many soap boxes or to too many conclusions!
  14. "Pass the cheese 'n crackers would ha hubby!" Yeeha!
  15. From another topic looks like they supply parts to Barlow and barient winches. But they do manufacture there own winches. Does anyone know anything about their winches - have them on board. They look to be very competitively priced.
  16. Bump - is this advice still valid? Got a #16 missing a pawl spring.
  17. No - you can take it as a yes!

    Afterburner

yup - and I think he's willing to negotiate on that to see her go to a good home. I wonder if we could get the NZ public to "give a little" to bring back a piece of NZ history - much cheaper than a crappy SI beach that may or may not be there next year!

    Afterburner

This just popped into my inbox - would be great to see her come home! In case you guys know anyone who didn't know Afterburner is for sale, you can direct them to her web page for bragging and details. www.gibbsvineyards.com/afterburner everything is negotiable Bill

what a shame. I used to love hanging out on that thing on a Friday night listening to the jazz band in the bar in my uni days. I reckon the city would have embraced that again if they could have got her going. Still love riding the old ferries in Victoria Harbour for the same reason - albiet with my brown paper bag!
