  1. Correct KM. Modern epoxies dont need etch (in fact they preffer not to have it as they are designed to stick to bare metal/alloy) Resenes Industrial 440 is magic but does require top coating. If you go with a "standard" 2K finish from automotive sector you will save youself a heap of dramas. Dont go to hard topcoats as they will chip too easily and are not easy to "touch up". This way, if you have any dramas in the future it can be fixed without beeing a major. If you get stuck give me a call on 0274 960 649
  2. Woop woop!!! Working hard at work to make it to this one... Chances are good that Doggo will be there!
  3. This is what happens when crew takes over.... Hotdogger missing Sail number 4812 Ross 930
  4. Hotdogger going up fully (s)crewed and poor Wild is staying tied up for this one... Really looking forward to the weekend! It's aways a great weekend even if you don't make it all the way up and pull in to Kawau and start drinking with the rest of the retirees!!!
  5. Yeah... Andrew is "old school" could find you a fax number somewhere In the meantime you can get hold of him on 022 159 2492 or andrewh@sailiq.co.nz Does all sorts of stuff! Including sails!!!
  6. Noneed to worry about the marina. All sorted thanks to Richmond Yacht Club! Last year there was a few ribs from Marsden Cove that would escort you through the channel as you arrive! Helpfull as there are sand banks all around... Awesome set up!!!!
  7. Very cool weekend for SoloIQ! Huge thanks to Sail IQ and Charlie for organising a Mothership ☺ Race report is simple: Start with a spinnaker wrap, allowing the fleet to get away and find soft patches, and then do about 746 gybes to avoid getting stuck (for hours on end)! Lots of confused looks from the big boat crews as you sail past them... Get to the finish, cross and than realize that there is a whole flotilla behind you ☺ Wicked after match function! Barbecue and drinks till 6:30am short sleep and another barbecue for breakfast! Awesome bunch of guys, camaraderie is remarkable. St
  8. "Friday finish" being loosely said as at 3kts N we will be lucky to finish before Valentines day! Although, powers to be advised that there will be a party regardless of what time we finish... Whats the cut off time for the race?
  9. So.... Im back from the overseas travels! Who is coming out for a night play at Kawau? I hear i missed out on a fantastic weekend down bottom end of Waiheke... And while you are at it, spare a thought for Route1. Last years race was a slog up hill with not enough wind to finish the race for some of us... Im really looking forward to see what this year brings...
  10. Wild won't be there... Owner/skipper (and general fuckwit) enjoying Central America. Although, being away from the boat for this long is creating some anxiety issues...
  11. Well, work has been nuts and I had no time for play! What a race! Light patches with nice blows in between. I made a huge mistake going too far to the Rangi shore and had to battle from there... Luckily for me fleet was becalmed by the Northern Leading and I managed to catch up (and park) with everyone. Run to the finish turned in to another park up and a subsequent beat... After towing Riccardo off of the putty at the entrance to the river and a "quick" motor to BBYC we had yet another spectacular prizegiving! Thanks to BBYC and all the volunteers as well as the sponsors! Magic motor hom
  12. On the other hand 38 boats!!!!! in words of our friend H'n'H: " yippie-kayey motherf@kers!!!!!" See you all at the start!!!!
  13. Just a minor question... Regarding the maths this time... 15nm course (more less) and 4 hours to do it means 4.3kts average which will be rather hard in a 23ft boat with 3-5kts of breeze to play with... What are the chances (and or likelyhood) of shortening the course on the day?
  14. Looks like a few boats are planning to go up the river for the prizegiving! It feels like it's been far too long between the races in this series! Or my workload has something to do with it... Looking forward to "church" on Sunday ☺ Although, I will do my very best not to be late for the start this year! Who else is motoring to Motukorea? Mass starts 1pm
  15. Lovely weather organised for the weekend. Along with some cool prizes! Richmond Yacht Club will be hosting the prizegiving and i look forward to seeing you up there for a cold beverage There is some sort of arangement with Westhaven for the use of the event berth for out-of-westhaveners while we all get fed and winners rewarded. Call or e-mail Kate at the office for details. Solo IQ is organising a few sausages to be thrown on a barbie while we re-cap all of the f@k ups during the race (and I suppose the rugby match...). Make sure that you come dressed in your best SoloIQ colourfull shirt
  16. Who is coming out to play this Sunday? No extras race should bring out a few boats. Anyone from DYC participating?
  17. Hi Ken, Good to hear that you are keen to give Charlie a run for his money! Individual races can be entered through the organising clubs. But it is a pain in the rear to enter each individual race and doesn't get you in the running for a series prizes (including a "special" participation prize ) If you contact Andrew at Sail IQ I'm sure something can be arranged to add you as a "late" keen, double hulled, fast, good bastard! May cost you a rum or three
  18. G8T FUN - and then not.... And than yes ????
  19. What an awesome weekend! We sure are sociable for a bunch of solo sailors!!! Great prizegiving, great food and just good fun! And it all ended up in a singalong on Kristina!!!! Andrew has given up so much of his time (and money) to make this series what it is. And i would just like to say big thank you to both you and Helen. Shirts look awesome (although wearing them whist hangover is not advisable) Bring on the next overnighter in a solo series!!!
  20. That is awesome!!! We had 9 series entries last season from what I can remember... Just shows what a little bit of exposure (and H pier badgering) can achieve!!!
  21. That might just be the reason they banned using shipping lane buoys for racing. I know I will be out the back of the fleet all alone coming around that mark. Having plenty of room to have a f@k up, (wrapping the spinnaker around the forstay) while Steve (tp) tries to keep the boat pointed in vaguely correct direction, while a representative from my insurance company observes the proceedings from the back contemplating if my liability cover is adequate... and should I recover, if they should continue insuring me and/or my vessel. I don't believe that anyone at any time plans to hit any o
  22. I like the shirt!!! Not convinced on the vests though... might be a touch too "formal" for the single handers... Then again, it doesn't take too much to convince me...
  23. What if the powers to be decide on course 2 and all of our quizzing is in vain... As Elly pointed out, fines are big and I don't think that solo series need bad publicity... Sure does make for an interesting course zig zagging through the chanel though! Can't wait for the weekend!!! 3 more sleeps to go!
  24. More like a run and gybe/reach/ bit on the nose/cracked sheets ☺
