    Hard Antifoul

My Ross 830 had Black Wet-and-Forget Warpaint on when I bought it. It’s supposed to be semi-hard. It is coming out in October for a fresh application after nearly 2 years (split between Gulf Harbour and Tamaki mooring)
  2. I might 3D print a cover for it to protect the shins...
  3. I saw those Barton ones when I was looking for a solution, but it was way out of my budget. This one cost no more than $500 including the new block. (and a bunch of time)
  4. I’ve always disliked the way my traveller cuts the cockpit of my Ross830 in two, so I decided to fix it. I realized that the mainsheet is actually limited by the safety lines and not the car position, so I could get away with a shorter one. That opened up a great solution.
  5. I have a 2.5m with a little 3.3hp on the back and the little Burnsco plastic wheels. It’s a pain in the ass on softish beach sand - probably harder than no wheels
  6. Bosch Green18v stuff, which I started buying a couple of years back, does not seem to hold up to moderate use. The bearings in my non-impact drill are stuffed after maybe 2 years. The range was a bit limited too. Also Bunnings has now dropped the entire green range. Batteries are not interchangeable with Bosch Blue. I will now start buying Makita, because it’s worth the extra cash.
  7. I am considering selling my 1 year old Merc 3.3hp 2 stroke dinghy motor just so I can match fuel with the 4 stroke outboard on my yacht. That's the real pain in this transition period between 2 and 4 strokes... Anyone want to swap? I would consider any of the little 4 strokes (well the major brands anyway), plus some cash...
  8. I have a 3.3 Mercury - same engine but with a neutral/forward gearbox. I think its 1.4 litres. Run time is probably an hour I guess.
  9. Nalco is called Altus nowadays, but is still the same.
  10. This is the final result. A bit of cleaning up and it'll be pretty as.
  11. Thanks for all the feedback guys. For now I have decided to just build a Swim/boarding platform, and maybe do the transom cut when I’ve had an opportunity to do some glassing on a less precious item than my 830. I’d hate to live with having butchered one. NZTiger that looks good. I am keen to see it (probably a weekend less blowy than this one. Mattm have you got pics of your swim platform? I’d love to see it. Funlovincriminal, was this on Trademe recently? Stunning!
  12. Absolutely keen to see it! Where’s your mooring? Mines in the Tamaki.
  13. On phone, I go to “Full Version” and then as per above.
  14. Luckily my boat already has a through hull rudder, so no mods required there. I could literally just cut the transom open between the seats and patch the holes (Properly of course). I am pretty handy, having previously design and manufactured furniture for a living, using Timber, Stainless steel, Aluminium and glass. Unfortunately I have almost no experience in Fiberglass. I thought I could probably build a deck like this one.
  15. I have to agree with Jon on this - my skinny boom would snap in two.
  16. It’s pretty much all the time, but worse at anchor. I’ll have a look at those removable ones. Maybe a good option.
  17. Sorry for bringing back up the old thread... What about building some sort of central podium for the lower mainsheet block to replace the traveller? My Ross 830 is destroying my wife’s shins.
  18. I have seen some open transom conversions on some of the small Ross yachts, and think I want that too, but first some advice... Extra scoop or just a hole? I thought I could build a small timber and stainless deck and not mess with the hull or waterline. Is it going to stuff up the boat? Are there any decent boat builders that will take on this sort of work without bankrupting me? It is only a $20k boat so it would have to be reasonable. Attached pic is of a R780 on a trailer, but mine is not on one.
