Majestic and in a whole different league.....
  2. That is certainly a problem with the WC Daldy... constant exposure to the corrosive marine environment. The Earnslaw has the benefit of living in freshwater with minimal corrosion. That said, the Earnslaw was suffering from corrosion from the inside out, in the area of the boilers where the sulfur from the coal formed acids. There was also a lot of corrosion from the stock carrying days when the bilges were contaminated with stock urine. Back around 2003, we replaced a good measure of the hull plating, welding in new sections. Interesting that the original steel for plating and rivets was the

Stunning... never fails to amaze me how far we have come.... and just when I think we have reached the pinnacle, along comes another technological advancement.

I have mentioned loose footed mains on a classic with a couple of you... this is what got me thinking...
  6. Are you happy with the loose foot set up.... ?

Were you always set up loose footed or did you make a switch.

If you made a switch, was it timed with a new sail or did you just alter the fixed foot sail and if so what did you learn?

I am getting ready to remove and varnish my boom and am wondering if I should make the change.

And thanks for the video votes...

Could use the track for a bag system to house main?

Could, I guess, but it is recessed in the top of the boom and I think I would much rather fill in the recess. Handling the sail is not too much of an effort... have even removed the lazy jacks which were chaffing.

Did the same with Lazy jacks, even though able to be pulled up to mast

  7. Have an Iridiun GO... used it for the delivery Auckland to Nelson and a small trip afterwards. Have removed it since as it really was not required and because I could not get the installation to look neat and tidy suiting the boat... that aerial cable was such a pain and needing the unit close to a window just made it all just plain ugly.
  8. I looked at that then stopped... and thought if I get connected I am compromising one reason to go sailing in the first place... Books can still be purchased analogue.... Maybe in a few years if I decide to venture far off shore then....

Good point... not really "neat" but interesting enough, and home connected so I figured worthy.

  12. At over $4000 yes it is a bit spendy... so will not be just now. Could be installed tidy and a little discrete however....
  13. Does this mean a dish could sit discretely flat on a coach roof?... without pole.

I have been watching many great videos lately but unable to post them as they are subscription only from ... https://www.offcenterharbor.com/tour/ Some free ones are available here...https://www.offcenterharbor.com/org-vis-gfv-cpage/ Hundreds of videos including 26 NZ specific... well worth the small subscription IMO.
  16. Guess the stuff when free from the soil it would have an SG about 1 and would remain in suspension, you could gravity separate out the higher density sand stones shells etc, then run all the rest over a filter belt say with a 2mm aperture .... that should work.
  17. I know how long it takes to suck up sand and silt... On a good day I could move to 12 cubic meters if it was not packed too hard. If this stuff has an intertwined root system the the going will be slow.
  18. I did a good few years suction gold dredging and also work in heavy mining where we pump slurry for kilometers. I cannot understand how this would work?... solids make up 5% to 10% of the slurry. They cannot return all that water to land surely? There must be some separation on the floating dredge with the water returning to the ocean, in which case how will the live spores/seeds/cuttings not make it back into the ocean to start again? 50 Hectares is a lot of land...50 x 10,000m2 x say 0.25m into the sea bed = 125,000 cubic meters of sand/mud... that is a lot. and if the intention is

Hi Native Does Contour now have new owners after she was on the market a couple of years ago?... (I looked hard at her myself for a while.) And if you know, what is the back story to the name "Contour of Cuthill"

  22. Looking for 2 x 275mm to 350mm bronze cleats or double horn bollards (for Mooring lines) and 4 x 225mm to 250mm Bronze cleats. (For Halyards on a timber mast) Anyone have any they want to part with... Any one know of a supplier other than Fosters? (Traditional Daveys)
