Go racing for 120k or go racing for 10k?

In terms of the health of the sport I think ynz should be looking at getting kids sailing. Full stop. When a 35 yo male who is one of our best medal prospects tells me it "just isn't worth it" and " I can't afford to sail anymore ( lasers ffs)". Then Houston we have problem. Maybe forget about then next 2 or 3 olympic cycles ( who cares anyway) and start building huge fleets of firebug or the oz goose , maybe working with schools. There's plenty of advantages to teaching kids to sail besides winning a gong.

I replaced the filter as part of the process, was planning to give it a few hours runn8ng then do it again. Running engine and watermaker at present and smooth as.

Ran for 45 mins , all sweet! Hooray. Just forgot to buy biocide, I can do that tomorrow.

That still excludes a lot of people who are not club members. Further the current structure dictates the procedure you describe. That in my experience attracts a certain personality type, that person then becomes part of the problem rather than the solution.

Cheers. Tank is empty. A bit of sludge and goop came out with the last mouthful. I assume the pickup is some distance above the bottom of the tank.
-
Thanks. I got an in line pump from burnsco this morning. Nearly finished emptying the tank. Then flush, add biocide and diesel. Yes.?

Access won't allow.

Have to block the vent.

Genius, let me dwell on that.

There is a drain but the tank is the top half of the keel so the drain is external and means slipping the boat. The easiest access is a dipstick hole in the bilge. I've just spent a couple of hours and have settled on a clear plastic hose that fits, but is too soft and curly to to reach the bottom. Resolved this with a 2m length of very fine dowel stuffed down its throat. Goes to the base of the tank and when I sucked on the other end water came up. Now having a cup of tea to wash out my mouth and trying to decide between bilge pump, shower drain pump, a hand pump I have, or a trip burnsco. I

IT IS RUNNING!!! Thanks everyone. I'll give it a good burn, then address the fuel tank.

Ok, I couldn't get it to start but I got a fair bit of water out and have got diesel at the injectors. I only had about 2l of clean diesel ( cabin heater, left over from winter). I'll get some more in the morning and persevere.

I can do a bit this evening, then I've got all day tomorrow.
-
I just did something stupid I've never done before ( and I thought I had done them all) I put 40l of fresh water in the diesel tank. It got to the engine ans strangely the engine stopped. I think I have a solution to getting it out of the tank, then I'll clean the lines up to the filter. My question is, what do I do after that?

Wait till you are ready to leave, then choose a destination that suits. Then again I'm still in Tahiti. Very nice apart from afternoon thunderstorms.

Booms again. Stand by for some new rules

What an excellent question. High on my list would be agitating against registration and licensing. There is a strong push from some harbourmasters to implement this and if we do nothing it will drop on us from above. Not to say I don't have sympathy for those complaining about antisocial behaviour on the water, every weekend we have to suffer idiots in fizz boats going past us on a semiplane. But licensing and registration don't work, so ynz could work with those bureaucrats to find an enforcement solution that would work. Also the biggest problem for cruisers is ynz d
