There is a drain but the tank is the top half of the keel so the drain is external and means slipping the boat. The easiest access is a dipstick hole in the bilge. I've just spent a couple of hours and have settled on a clear plastic hose that fits, but is too soft and curly to to reach the bottom. Resolved this with a 2m length of very fine dowel stuffed down its throat. Goes to the base of the tank and when I sucked on the other end water came up. Now having a cup of tea to wash out my mouth and trying to decide between bilge pump, shower drain pump, a hand pump I have, or a trip burnsco. I

IT IS RUNNING!!! Thanks everyone. I'll give it a good burn, then address the fuel tank.

Ok, I couldn't get it to start but I got a fair bit of water out and have got diesel at the injectors. I only had about 2l of clean diesel ( cabin heater, left over from winter). I'll get some more in the morning and persevere.

I can do a bit this evening, then I've got all day tomorrow.

I just did something stupid I've never done before ( and I thought I had done them all) I put 40l of fresh water in the diesel tank. It got to the engine ans strangely the engine stopped. I think I have a solution to getting it out of the tank, then I'll clean the lines up to the filter. My question is, what do I do after that?

Wait till you are ready to leave, then choose a destination that suits. Then again I'm still in Tahiti. Very nice apart from afternoon thunderstorms.

What an excellent question. High on my list would be agitating against registration and licensing. There is a strong push from some harbourmasters to implement this and if we do nothing it will drop on us from above. Not to say I don't have sympathy for those complaining about antisocial behaviour on the water, every weekend we have to suffer idiots in fizz boats going past us on a semiplane. But licensing and registration don't work, so ynz could work with those bureaucrats to find an enforcement solution that would work. Also the biggest problem for cruisers is ynz d

The underlying social problem is many boats simply cannot get insurance while others face often ridiculous and expensive hurdles. -

I was always worried the plough was a little undersized, but according to some chart somewhere my chain was a tiny bit heavy. Only times I have dragged was when the idiot skipper miscalculated the tide range. Anyway I have bid on this supreme (trademe). Looking forward to taking 20lbs off the bow.

Interesting, I have done multiple trips to and from NZ with only a satphone. I have just done 1700 miles with starlink and I'm sold. In fact I tossed the ssb last week.
