  1. 1970 to early 1980s,highlight for as a boy was watching the starts of the rnzys off orakei wharf, particularly the 1st/A class division. Sure the vessels are older now and costs to maintain but surely even back then with lower incomes etc these yachts were there racing.Whats changed?7 day week,on call work time?We have roughly 400 members and say 100 yachts from cruisers to racers, take the last long weekend, friday night race to bottom end and could only muster 4 yachts and 2 for the monday return race, other 2 went home sunday, commitments else where so no race, general harbour races lucky to get
  2. Might have your jacket on,but cannot get back onboard pointless
  3. Slightly off topic. most have a boarding ladder attached to the stern?mine is a fold down one and discovered how completely useless its is.Been mounted there for over 30yrs.The problem being last rung out of water, need to swing one foot on to rung and have a rope hanging down so you can pull yourself up.It is going to get adjusted this week.
  4. "Romany"Mine is the same, but just 3/4 of body under water and the water is not that warm at 5.30pm off sunday rock.Yep in reverse.Bloody wife keeps telling me to watch the dinghy.Do I ever listen NO
  5. Thanks for replies, might just change the rope to good old nylon, just incase I do it again.
  6. Ok I have 3 lines from my dinghy,2 outers control it and middle one just incase.I had some kevlar 8mm short ends left over and used them. Now the problem was last Sunday when ,not consentrating, wrapped one line in to prop shaft. The question is ,what knifes do you have onboard to cut such rope in an emergency?I ended up with a hack saw blade, slow going but achieved result. Should I have floats on line just keep dinghy tied up short?
  7. I am thinking that I should stay with internal,no biggie to disconnect inlet and blow back should the problem arise again.Saturday strong incoming tide with lots of debri so guessing I was unlucky.
  8. We were just talking about sail drives Saturday night,Have such small holes my friend is thinking about putting a separate cock in so as to get maximum flow to motor, any issues about not using the sail drive pick up??
  9. Took a group scouts to a wave pool, through a l/j in and said"now put it on"what a fail, now they respect why they put it on first. Would never ever own an inflatable. A)did I puncture it with a hook? B)is the can going to work? C)if i am unconscious whose going to blow it up for me?
  10. Finally got number 1 to go windward in the light, slow learner(3yrs) made a temporary barber system and it worked, now to buy the right gear. no1 seemed to long in foot,so by attaching a string to clew and using inboard track, foot fell inside life lines and set perfect went from 1.8 to 2.3 on gps,it was light 7.00am this morning off the sisters
  11. Ok as in one of my posts here I have an inboard strainer,No strainer on out of hull. Last Saturday while out fishing off Hooks Bay we went to motor back to Man o war, noticed not a lot of water coming out.No alarm checked internal strainer and had water. Went for a swim and found weed stuck in intake, removed weed and full water flow from exhaust. Now the question is,Do I remove internal strainer and fit external strainer, apparently you cannot have both? Any thoughts?
  12. After arriving in to North Harbout(Ponui) around 10.30pm snuck in to clear area, dropped the pick and yes clear of the launch(small ship thing),on with dinner, everyone laying the same way but the thing astern talk about sail around. So picked up anchor moved to be last boat, reset, great sleep till 5.00am,the thing must of sailed more than i thought as there was shouting etc from the thing and a vessel who was astern. Can only presume the thing must of payed out a lot rode/warp,great arces.
  13. used to be no restrictions on numbers then we dropped to 30 to 15 down to 9 now 7,meanwhile the tacc for comms has not moved, they have stayed 25cm meanwhile we went from 27cm to 30cm 7 may seem plenty but we do not keep our limit as they go to the elderly who cannot afford snapper limit your catch not catch your limit!
  14. going away tonight, should I take the shotgun just in case of a leeward overtake?

    New prop

I know what you mean, been away for a week, nice n clean,3 days later and you can see the silt sticking, bugger might have to go out friday
  16. From memory the drifting vessel would be deemed a vessel not under command and you would give way, regardless of having motor running. As we would have to assume they have a problem with their propeller.Same as a yacht on port tack with no way on(drifting)you on starboard making way you would have to give way.Forget about the racing rules, the international collision regs would come in to play.!being on stb must hold course and other vessel has not made a manoveer of iintention(changing course) then you must give way.(followed by a 2 finger salute).

    New prop

changed oil+filter and fuel filter, had injectors looked at,no problem there, motor maybe getting tired and noticed a club member with same problem has taken kiwi prop off and gone to 2 blade folding, but we will just have to put up with what we have for the time being.motor sounds better and appears at this stage to be pushing 6.5,little less throttle but needs a scrub again.
  18. some squat at low speeds and make a wash like a old displacement at 9knt,when these fizzys/ribs etc do 15+ no wake, but then comes in play no wash zones but must travel no faster than 5knt.so what is one to do??
  19. Yes well what can I say about HM boat in panmure today, might of been doing 5knt but the wake, thanks now i have oil to clean up.
  20. 29cm is no good to me but fine for comms we need 30cm and only can take 7 snapps in sna1
  21. My sails are on the plane, just split my old no2,hopefully Monday/tuesday
  22. If anyone has time here is 350 pages of the plan and most is not in plain English http://www.seachange.org.nz/PageFiles/1166/5086_SCTTTP_Marine%20Spatial%20Plan_WR.pdf
  23. just a sample, the pink areas will/maybe the reserves and could include up to 1 mile from anyshore line that Doc have control of. In effect there could be no fishing from rangitoto lighthouse across to Takapuna or 1 mile out to sea around rangi/motutapu motuihe browns island. The Mokihinui maybe covered western side of coville tiritiri matangi. Can be seen as an inconvenience to recc fishers but may install abundance once commercial seiners/trawlers are out,on the other hand we may see more longliners as trawlers convert over.catch22? It would nice to think that in 10/15yrs we could have more
  24. KAWAU BOATING CLUBNORTHCOTE PO $20.54 No your right I paid $2.054 per lt 10 lts is all I got in my can, from my bank statement and is was the only thing purchased on my card, shower was paid cash as %20 was all I had for 4 showers(4 of us) I was a member back in the "Shoemakers"day as we were up there all the time nowadays prefer bottom end/coromandel as not so many crazy gin palaces charging around.
