  1. Cost about the same as a normal vhf, doesn’t replace epirb. Dial up your buddy for a chat. No brainer.
  2. I watched 5 times what a crack up! Went for an over nighter and must’ve said I’m a cat sailor 20 times
  3. This sounds like an emergency! Use the fire extinguisher
  4. I agree totally. But I have a question, how much actual sailing would this madman be doing? I mean what inputs would be required? It looks expensive and I would imagine it would have double auto pilots with back ups and electric everything, it probably makes his coffee in the morning. A weather man on shore probably sends the auto pilot the co ordinates and the sheets adjust to suit, the furler winds in some sail and the main slides down a bit as it chases down another low system... I haven’t raced anything around anything, but I would think with enough money this could be don
  5. If you do can you Pm me with details
  6. Cool looks like a range, It’s no race boat so not looking to peel the stickers off to save half of a gram. A 4 stroke 9.9 high thrust with a big low pitch prop sounds perfect except maybe $$$. A 2 stroke would be fine and probably also a 9.9hp. It’s a remote connection for throttle and shift only. I’ll try get the Yammie sorted first and see if I can get a couple more seasons out of it. The controls are routed terribly as you can see. The throttle pops off the connector inside when over half revs and the gear cable is on such an angle it chooses wether it feels like engaging or not.
  7. What outboard have you managed to shoe horn into the well? My 8hp Yamaha 2 stroke is being a naughty boy, looking at options.
  8. These pokie upy bits must be there to ensure the aero centre of effort is at the back when on anchor.
  9. Had a great time out on Rotoiti today, big thanks to BOPTYS! The club puts on great events at a great location.
  10. Yeh good idea NZTiger the info must be out there somewhere. Maybe this Cat sailing game is one of those dark arts that no one talks about......
  11. Thanks heaps, that gives me some ideas. I have no bollards or attachment points at the front at all, not even a bow roller or fair lead. Really appreciate the photos cheers erice.
  12. Does anyone know where I can source a fore beam from? A rigger pointed me to Ulrich and told me to get T6 rated, Ulrich said they only have T5.
  13. This is the first of many questions, Does anyone have a picture or description of the setup used for mooring connection? Specifically do you use a bridal system? Is it permanently mounted, do you have a bow roller etc etc? Do you use a bridle when anchoring? The previous owner has simply lashed the mooring line to the centre of the front beam. I'm sure a bridle setup would be more suitable and reliable.
  14. Thanks everyone. KM- Place your bet. Erice- Thanks for the good info, No I haven't owned a beach cat before. I rented the plastic Hobie at 'the mount' for 1 hour early this year, same thing really isn't it hahaha..... Freedom GBE- I bought the "cheap" one, Storm. I say "cheap" because it needs attention, love and $$. The other 2 on TM at moment would be better value, but at the asking price (Storms) it's a nice entry price and gives me time to upgrade as I go along, plus it feels good to be bringing a neglected boat up back to good condition.
  15. I bought it! Looking forward to a huge learning curve....
  16. We could strip our GBE from sailing to being packed on a road trailer in about 45mins, lifting hulls on with the help of a bystander or 2. Pulling her apart on the beach always attracted a few spectators. That did involve beams and tramps off etc as you'd expect. So yes it's not hard swapping beams etc. That's an awesome story KM, so very Kiwi I love it. That's good news, sounds like a fairly easy thing to change out the front beam, so with bolts and fittings removed it simply slides out? Nothing else holds it in. Cool I think I'll be able to just dry out at low tide, tie forest
  17. Also who supplies the beams?
  18. Cool thanks for info, had a good look, condition as to be expected. Is the front beam easy to replace? I.e diy job? Looks like undo some bits and it should just slide out?
  19. Hi all, I'm going to look at a GBE tomorrow, I don't know a great deal about them except they look super cool and I think I need one. What are common things to look out for when checking it over? Also any other hints and tips in general would be much appreciated.
  20. Team Resivor is looking forward to it!
  21. It's all planned, now wait for the movie and book contracts, they will make more $$ per hour from that stunt than a house in Auckland....
  22. Had an epic trip, launched at Whitianga and went over to the Mercs. http://gulfwanderers.blog/2017/10/23/great-mercury-island/ Check it out, please give feed back. Great Barrier trip planned for end of next month, looking forward to that! Will take a video camera or two and maybe start some you tube silliness....
  23. Thanks for all the info! Amazing place. Read about our trip on my blog. Tons of photos and bullshit. https://gulfwanderers.blog/2017/10/23/great-mercury-island/
