  1. Classic! Didn't even notice that, It falls on a week day too, urrgggghh, work enough days as it is,now they make another workday! might ask the boss for a day off on the 32nd, sure he will be ok with it? Dam NASA what next? Make an hour 70 mins?...
  2. Aucklands ISS timetable https://spotthestation.nasa.gov/sightings/view.cfm?country=New_Zealand&region=None&city=Auckland#.WGFfp-vXerU
  3. Haha wasn't a UFO, the government doesn't fly them over Xmas holidays... When we saw it last time it was moving pretty quick, not 7secinds quick, took around 4-5mins to go over, and you can see it over a few days. At that speed it gets a few laps in before its orbit changes enough to leave our skies. https://spotthestation.nasa.gov/sightings/view.cfm?country=New_Zealand&region=None&city=Christchurch#.WGFdd-vXerU
  4. Down load the free app, Sky view. Shows planets, constellations huble and the ISS. Just point phone up, aim at something bright and it tells you what it is, The kids love it (and the big kids) We watched it go over awhile ago, the app is about 15mins behind, but it shows the trajectory aswell so is easy to find the bright star like heap of space station moving across the sky.
  5. Keep the thumbs coming! latest blog entry https://gulfwanderers.wordpress.com/2016/12/19/day-trip/
  6. Hi people, give me a thumbs up if you want me to put updates in here of my latest adventures....
  7. Day trip only on Saturday unfortunately, one of the kids had a birthday party invite Sunday and was determined to go despite a week of me trying, I failed to convince her otherwise......
  8. You are all wrong. This is actually the highest wave ever recoderd on this planet, not only a scientifically proven fact but it was also photographed. No yacht could ride over this wave. Over 200 people have died in this area. I strongly advise all vessels to avoid This area at all costs. https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTIhajMfgN9j82S_OQxczkxCFlF8lPO9_BM-xbuzHRhcqljYLH8dNRgW2tLnw
  9. BP we went out yesterday, saw a big black yacht and climbed aboard, got yelled at by about 40 screaming school kids!!!!! I said "I just want to have a shower" as the angry mob threatened violence and chased me off their boat!!!!! Your boat is called "spirit of New Zealand" isn't it??
  10. Yep that's was us, Did you pass us when we pulled over?
  11. Will do,sounds like there could be a queue though.... just being aboard a yacht with standing room would be a luxury! Thanks again for the books BP
  12. Hi Weaver Thank you We are also in the club, should be up Saturday for the night might see you up there. We plan on trying to get to Oneroa for fish & chips lol weather dependant otherwise probably end up at chamberlains
  13. If anyone is interested I have started a sailing blog . We have a Catalina 7 trailer sailer and have just started out, as you will see I am pretty new to sailing but keen to get out and have some fun. Please feel free to comment and offer any helpful tips, I'm learning as I go and I'm not scared to share my mistakes. When I was reading up on sailing I couldn't find enough of this type of thing so hopefully others find it interesting and possibly useful. The site puts the newest blog at the top which is annoying if you want to read in chronological order, so If you want to start from th
  14. Great read and really nice pic's, thanks for sharing. Would be good to see more "trip reports" on here.
  15. Rotoiti was perfect! Thanks heaps for the advice, Family thoroughly enjoyed it!
  16. Thanks Brad, was an excellent weekend, we had a ball! The lake is beautiful and everyone was so helpful and friendly, We enjoyed every minute and managed to get through the weekend without incident especially thanks to Owens great help and directions.
  17. That is epic, great watch thank you. Does anything to that scale still happen with trailer boats?
  18. From google earth it looks like Rotoiti is surrounded by roads houses and farmland, is that the case? Vs Tarawera feels isolated being mostly bush. What is best ramp to use at Tarawera?
  19. They must have known what they were doing when building them, the boats in great condition considering the age and seems really well built. I read about the ballast feature on the NZTYA site, really like that idea. I cannot find the retro video you mentioned?
  20. I agree, taking a bit longer to get there is just fine. If we were in a rush we would have ski boats with 200+HP.... Planning our first outing - looking at Tarawera. The chip mod sounds good, I have a warranty and it possibly would void it, also I prefer reliability over power.
  21. Done - You had me at hot pools. Tarawera was our first thought, have been there once in the power boat, great place, went to that hot water beach. I saw a you tube video of a bloke camping in a Tinnie and he walked up a track to a hot pool/creek, do you know where that is? I'm not at all familiar with Rotoiti, but I do like the idea of a more friendly lake for the maiden voyage. Any pointers on these lakes is much appreciated.
  22. I was just impressed with the pulling power of the Hilux. Yes it's on a 2010 braked trailer tows really nicely, seems to pull up ok. Didn't have to test it in an emergency luckily though. There is an old saying about towing " never go down a hill faster than you can go up". Yes I can't wait to get it wet!
  23. We just bought a trailer sailer! Planning our first trip and have chosen lake Taupo. Can anyone offer some local knowledge on ramps, anchorages, things to see, things to avoid etc etc. Have downloaded the chart and scanned google earth, looks like plenty of anchorage options for almost all wind directions. Thanks in advance
