    Fast Mount

As many will know, YNZ now require your floorboards to be fastened so they won't fly around the boat when she has just rolled past 120 degrees. Finding a way to fasten all my floorboards for Cat 2, yet allow them to be easy to lift was an issue until I found these awesome Kiwi designed and built clips from Fast Mount. They come complete with a drill, a tapping driver and centre locators. You screw the female part to a floor cross member, then clip the centre spike to it. Press your floorboard into it's place, and your centre is marked. Bore a 10mm x 8mm deep blind hole with the special dri
  2. They were great to deal with and did an excellent job. Nathan Westby is the man to talk to. http://www.signcorp.co.nz/
  3. ScottiE Signcorp in Westhaven were brilliant. I'll plug them again!
  4. Hugo Boss on the charge now. Big gains!
  5. Nice one Otto. You covered it exactly as I see it. My main concern with bringing my boat up to NZS3004.2 to get an Ewof is that it requires all metal parts to be bonded to an external plate in the water and also to the Marina Earth. I don't want to do that, and in fact, I would rather be 100% isolated from the water, as far as practical. Quite apart from the time and expense required to do this, as soon as I bond everything to earth, and another boat has earth leakage that is below 30mA, (So the RCD stays on) my boat is raised to whatever voltage they have leaked into the marina earth. That m
  6. IT, that was the way I was thinking of going, but if you look at the standard and the checklist at the end, they want to go over the entire DC system as well. I would be happy to get my ebox certified.. Not really happy about the galvanic isolator. I would rather my hull is not earthed, and rely on the protection offered by TWO RCDs in series.. The trouble with this document is that it is very rigid where it doesn't need to be. Flexibility is required. I have some reading to do when I get home!!
  7. Jeeze. It's even worse than I thought. That's a horror show. I wonder how they would deal with the ship I am on. No connection between the genset neutrals and earth AT ALL. For good reason too!
  8. Wheels, that pdf is from the marina operators assn, so will presumably be adopted NZ wide. Not just Westhaven. It also talks about "legal and illegal" at the beginning. I wonder if this is the driver and where this has all come from? It really is bullshit and I'm not a happy camper.
  9. You haven't read the latest from the Marina association that I attached in my original post. You can run your extension lead (suitably tagged) as long as you are on the boat. No mention of just one appliance, but you cannot leave it unattended, and plugged in, without an Ewof.. Check out the pdf I attached. Here it is again.. Shore_Power.pdf
  10. No. You can't print the electronic copy I have, and it is watermarked as registered to me. It's tied up very tightly....
  11. Where do you get the one appliance from Wheels? I didn't read that in the standard anywhere.
  12. Yes, this is where it gets murky. This ewof you have CANNOT be to NZS 3004 which is the appropriate electrical standard. The boat has to be earthed. I would like to talk to your Sparky!! Sounds like a great solution as that is the same set up as the Marshall, except I have a combo RCD/MCB. Would you care to PM me his details? Thanks.
  13. One News finally in on the action: https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/sport/other/meet-kiwi-take-challenge-sailing-non-stop-around-world-using-only-natural-energy-and-hell-his-own.html?autoPlay=5199048275001
  14. My fears exactly (anodes). What I would really like to know is WHY? For a hard wired 240Vac system, I completely understand, but for a DC system with an extension lead for a dehumidifier and battery charger???? I would also like to see some standards quoted, ie "conforms to NZS XXXX" and also What the eWof tests entail. I would also want the tester to have a copy of the standard (I do) and tell me exactly what he is going to test and why.

  16. I have just received the latest Tosh from Westhaven about increased "electrical safety" requirements. The upshot is, that unless you have an electrical warrant of Fitness, you will not be able to leave your dehumidifier and battery charger running while you are away. This is whether you have your lead tagged or not. Ewofs are not the same as lead testing. They are designed for boats that have a full AC system fitted and are hard wired. They also cover your DC system. As per usual, the Marina operators association mention no electrical standards and do not mention who is qualified to issue
  17. I only just saw this. Bugger.. Looks like he went overboard. The worst case for a solo sailor. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/oct/27/us-coast-guard-suspends-search-guo-chuan-chinese-sailor-lost-mid-pacific
  18. Agreed. Rubbish boat, but I think he is playing the long game. Complete this one, don't get too embarrassed, then look for some bigger support for the next one.. It's all exposure and he's a determined bugger!
  19. Go the Crazy Kiwi!!! He's a legend in my book. Doing it all on the smallest of budgets.. I hope a big name picks him up soon..
  20. Is that a Sundreamer trick??
  21. I also assumed the surgeon was a man. Does that make me a misogynist? I don't think so. Definition of a Mysoginist: Misogyny (/mɪˈsɒdʒɪni/) is the hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against women or girls. Misogyny can be manifested in numerous ways, including social exclusion, sex discrimination, hostility, androcentrism, patriarchy, male privilege, belittling of women, violence against women, and sexual objectification. Most surgeons are male so it's a natural assumption to make, which is exactly what the story is meant to do! To say then, that the thought is therefore Mysoginisti
  22. Nope. Disagree 100%. But skill and concentration has a lot to do with it which is why a succession of Booboo helmed boats have done so well.
  23. If it's beat beat beat, then the little boat will kick our arse.. We won't even need to choke..
