  1. The teak decks were removed and the ply patched and glassed on my marauder a few years back. The bill was around 10k.

Ha classic! I spotted Bill out there but didn't know who was on the 2 to tango. You guys were getting along nicely. Shame the breeze crumped out at tiri. Sitting on my bean bag reading the paper and listening to some good music in the shade of the boom tent was pretty nice. Keeping the sun of the kids is also a feature. Mainsails are overrated!
  4. Fitted pressure hot and cold water to the marauder, even have a shower on the back now!!
  5. For starters just play with the forestay. Get a base setting for about 10-12 kts and go 5 turns on for big breeze and 5 turns of for very light, and adjust as nessisary for the in between breeze. You cant adjust while racing but do it between races. Allways know where you are with it, normally you just talk about it as '+1' as one turn on and so on and keep talking about it and where you are at all day. You need to go back to base at the end of the day. Have a small bit of batten with marks on it to line up if you loose where you are. This will make a massive difference to your pointing an
  6. Did the first ever rum race on the SR26 'Motorboat'. Put the boat on the grid at stillwater and changed the prop then sailed the boat down on sunday to its new home in westhaven. Full marks to Bri-ski props for modifying my spare folding prop for me in a day and for very cheap! Got the pitch and diameter reduced and now its PERFECT.
  7. My guess would be under 150kg. A thompson 750 is around 80kg from the masthead, they have a 400kg bulb at 2.2m

Man Squid, its amazing how much different (better!!) the cav 32 looks with the lower cabin. It really looks like whole different boat. Here is another shot of our 'live aboard'. My parents have now been living on the boat for well over 20 years and all us boys still call her 'home'. Also a shot of the familys whole fleet in hobart, the red one is my eldest brothers boat that he sailed to antactica (snow petrel) and just for squid, another brothers proa that they attempted to sail across the tasman. Video of that trip and on living aboard with kids here, its worth a watch. http://www.

We lived with 7 people (5 boys)on board a 45ft gaff rigged herreshoff for many years. mainly based in marinas around NZ but spent a few years just cruising, (Chatam islands, bay of islands, marlbrough sounds) and they my folks left with the 2 youngest boys in 1995 to protest against the nuclear testing in mururoa and never came back. Now days they still live on the boat but are based in tasmainia and love it over there. Our boat was pretty budget, without a word of a lie we could fly 8 sails at once and there were no jammers or winches (other than the manual anchor winch for a 50kg anchor...)

Sorry Tim I did promise you photos and a video. Here is all the footage put together. The stuff of you guys doesnt look all the exciting but in many ways i think that is really good, it shows how effortless the boat goes fast and just how much faster it can go, where as my boat looks like its at terminal velocity at around 18-20kts! http://www.youtube.com/user/BooBooNZ#p/u/6/TQRypEWiP_A

I bet the inside is as bad or worse than the outside, hopefully not too much stuff is floating around in the slime soup down there..... Disgracefull.
  14. what abotu the nano shield(?) antifoul remover?
  15. Big is beautiful Marshy! Nigel, Murray told me he was going to do the 2 handed 3 legged weekend instead. Might see you guys out there, if so come over to the marauder with the sounds cranking!
  16. I just found it for the first time too.......
  17. Im only really here for the race talk and other sailing/racing related topics. I hardly ever view the small talk and will seldom post there. but I guess thats just because of my interest in yacht racing. But I can see why its popular with many people. I agree with the coments that I would like to see more people talking about the race, wether it was just a wednesday night race or a simrad- whatever, i just love reading about peoples races and comparing tactics and sail choices ect, its all a learning experence. I do find there is often too much noise by some posters, one in particular that o
  18. Here is jagged's keel. simmilar to a standard R930 one. AFs keel is a very narrow fin with a heavy bulb but I think recreation might have the heaviest keel?
  19. Hey KM, Nathan tried to steer the boat but didnt do a very good job and I think the amount of concentration wore him down! He was passed out by the time we got to the marina! Right now back to boats, the SR26s all have different keels with different bulb weights and I think it has really made very little difference. sure the new keels are faster than the originals but I think any one of about 6 boats could win the nationals witht he right crew and sails. Rattle and jagged have the Mk2 original keel from when they were launched although rattle has added another 150kgs to the bulb.
  20. Yes the New force certainly did 'add' to the dock party, we were already settling in for the long haul thou..... The Jagged edge stereo with the extra 12" Subwoofer set up on the dock seemed to be loud enough... pick shoes?
  21. I think we smoked you at the dock party too....... but again it was all down to alot of dock party practice...
