sailinghigh 0
Aren't they proposing two marine reserves. Better still vote greens as they are advocating more reserves than those. NZ territorial waters , The NZ exclusive economic zone, Antarctica Zones, sea, on land environment reserves plus the Maui dolphins increased marine reserve areas and cleaner harbours . sailinghigh. Black Panther 1,587
What I like about this is it is actually being driven by Joe Public. Some of us can remember when Goat Island was first proposed as a marine reserve, the wailing and gnashing of teeth was loud and prolonged. Now the public are trying to push the govt to create more reserves.
1paulg 17
Marine Reserves can be a fine balance - have heard arguments that a high percentage of the coast should be put into reserve which IMO is going a bit far. A well established reserve can feed off lying areas . Brings up the debate of the private fishing quota being cur back but not the commercial. I would have thought one reserve in the Bay would be sufficient but that's just my view..
Black Panther 1,587
I believe the official position is 10% of the available coast, can someone confirm?
