erice 732
possibly this It’s the only place in the world run by Foreign Minister Murray McCully and the Wellington based Ministry of Foreign Affairs. One mark of their success is that Tokelau, 1600 people on three atolls 500 kilometres north of Samoa, has the world’s highest rate of adult onset diabetes. This has drawn no comment from McCully who has run Tokelau for eight years. Now we are discovering that McCully has wasted vast amounts of taxpayers money buying a new Bangladesh built ferry for Tokelau that, in short, has turned into an embarrassing fiasco. It will cost taxpayers many more millions of dollars to buy another ship for Tokelau. http://michaeljfield.tumblr.com/post/147569913983/mccullys-pacific-boondoggle-michael-field-as-if
waikiore 399
Yes unfortunately all true, the ship could have been built right here in Auckland and delivered on time, rather than eight months late -and the state of her!!! Professional Skipper is the only magazine with the guts to follow this amazing story of Wellington bungling. In Australia the money would have to be spent internally keeping Aussies earning paying tax and spending, but not us we send north of 12 million to a Bangladesh yard. The number of consultants NZ paid for on this have questions to be answered, apart from a couple of Herald articles our press have shied away from this amazing story. Island Time 1,235
What is up with that. This should have been MUCH more widely publicized. Incompetent management, budget blowouts, AND not even using NZ Marine Trades. Despicable.
Kevin McCready 83
I would not surprise me in the least if corruption and kickbacks were at the root of the decision. Has anyone ever played the board game PolEconomy? Same same.
