Guest shane
Hi guys. Could anyone help me on some info please. If a wooden boat has been out off the water for 6months How much water will it take on when put back in. ? Thanks:)
harrytom 652
depends what the construction is,carvel(planked)may leak till it takes up depending on corking, diagonal not likely to leak, plywood should not leak. what type of boat??
ex TL systems 63
14 litres
wheels 543
14 litres Huh??? you got me on that one exTL As harrytom asked, what is the boat. A planked boat that has Caulking between the planks can leak like a sieve. These Hulls take up about 13% of the weight of the weight of the Hull in water. That's the only one I can think if that needs the timber to take up water in aid to stay water tight. All other designs like Glass over ply remain dry.
wheels 543
Oh right, doh! forgot. But you forgot to calculate in the Suppermoon affect a the mo. So plus 14% for high tide periods and -14% for low tide periods.
Guest shane
Its fulk kauri planked. Thanks guys
harrytom 652
put it in the water and will soon know if it leaks or not. nah when looking at planks and you see cracks(opening up)depends on corking ,it can close back up again, consult a wooden boat builder or get them to take a look. corking is not a job i would take on,too much cork forced in can crack planks too little it will leak
wheels 543
I have heard of many occasions where big pumps had to be used to keep the boats afloat till the seems took up.
