Tillsbury 5
Hi all, finally been let on here. About to collect new (to me) boat so finally sticking my head above the parapet. Mooring in Te Ana from May, and I'm guessing there must be a few of us around as it's so close to full. Anyone else mooring there? "Te" and "Ana" are both excluded words in the forum search so it's going to be tricky finding related information. Any advice on East coast and Banks Peninsular cruising grounds would be most welcome to an ex-pom who has only done southern UK sailing before. And, of course, any recommendations for yacht services down here. It doesn't look like there's very much available as yet. With luck the new marina will attract some. wheels 544
When I get home tonight, I will send you some names of the ones sailing in Lyttleton, if someone does not beat me too it. There is a great bunch down there.I'm in Marlborough by the way.
Tillsbury 5
That would be great. I'd like to think that a bunch of us new marina folks will end up getting to know each other, particularly since there aren't likely to be many broker or charter berths here in the near future -- I'm guessing that most of the berths will be actual boat sailing owners. We could even meet up for a beer now and then. All we need is for someone to build a bar

Tillsbury 5
I will do, thanks! We were going to be pretty close, A20, but have now been moved up as we needed a bigger berth so we're on your side a bit further out I believe.

vikimoore 8
Hi there, welcome to Lyttelton! My boat is Wildwood, we are on A47 at the moment, but moving to C pier when that gets finished off. What boat are you on? I was down there today and it was freeeeeezing! There are lots of fun sailors and if you are keen to meet some of the locals then you are more than welcome to come along to the Little Ship Club get togethers. We have monthly events including guest speakers, seminars on navigation and splicing, rigging, sails etc, on water raft-ups, cruises around the Peninsula etc. Check out our FB page and the events tab to see what is coming up and if you send me your email address I'll add you to our newsletter database: https://www.facebook.com/Little.Ship.Club.of.Canterbury/?ref=bookmarks We have got a navigation talk coming up this Thursday all about Open CPN - 7pm at Naval Point. There is heaps of good cruising around the Peninsula and beyond: https://littleshipclubcanterbury.wordpress.com/visiting-canterbury/ There is a marina association which is working on a few issues with the marina contracts - worth joining them to keep in touch with whats going on too, although the Little Ship Club is the group that does the most in regards to actual social events etc: https://www.facebook.com/dampierbay/ Hope that helps! Happy to answer any other questions. Cheers Viki https://astrolabesailing.com
vikimoore 8
Oh and plenty of yacht services available too all mostly in town though, rigging, boat building, Yanmar agent, sail makers etc, you just have to know where to look and happy to point you in the right direction if you need something in particular. Cheers Viki
Tillsbury 5
Thanks Viki, I will look you up when we get there, which is looking like the end of the month. Where do you get fuel down there? I’ve talked to Oborns for rigging/sails and Norris for doing some modifications to the boat. Not sure where everything else is. Need a Volvo service agent and a decent electrician and plumber if you know of any.
vikimoore 8
Fuel is a bit tricky. There are facilities for the commercial boats - ferry, fishing boats etc. But nothing for recreational boats. I just use jerry cans. Chris Harris is your main contact for marine electrical stuff: http://www.tweedsmarine.nz Not sure re Volvo Service agent. I use Mainland Marine but they are Yanmar - not sure if they cross over, but I am sure they'd be able to advise where to go - talk to Brian Bone https://whitepages.co.nz/w/mainland-marine-engineering-lyttelton/ Oborns is good for boat parts, we also have a Burnsco in Blenheim Rd and Boat Shop in Ferrymead is a treasure trove of all sorts of parts - closest to the marina too. Safe travels! Viki
Tillsbury 5
Thanks very much Viki for such handy information. I'll be sure to contact those. Oborns know me well already Volvo say that the nearest authorised agent is in Kaikoura. Handy. Can't believe there's no-one official in Christchurch, but looks like I'll have to dig about for others. Tillsbury 5
Well finally made it, after engine giving up in Pegasus Bay, wind giving up 10nm from Godley Head, getting to the end of A pier, then bodging the engine to get us next door to our final mooring (it was temporarily in use), then this weekend doing final leg of our Auckland delivery trip -- moving five metres to port to our destination in A29. Come say hello if you're around. I'm busy getting various bits and pieces fixed up.
