Dtwo 157
Recently replaced my old pot of lanocote with a new 500gram container. I was keen to try applying it to my prop underwater. Opened the new pot to discover green runny sh*t. Immediately washed off my fingers when in the presence of water. Took it back to Burnsco Whangarei who were good. They expected to see the thick amber paste that we all know and find really useful. They offered a refund but pointed out that they wouldn't get a refund from CRC as they get pretty sh*t customer service. I took my pot back with me and contacted CRC Customer Service. The helpful Tashina ran my comments past a chemist who said: "The green product (Lanocote Natural) has always existed but there was also previously an Amber product as well that has since been discontinued and is no longer available. This product has been made with the same grade of wool grease that we have always used." I have replied: "- There is nothing on the packaging that differs in the slightest between the 2 pots I have - CRC’s own product specification states “Thick amber coloured paste (Grease)”" I'm pretty disappointed as it has always been a good product. I think I'm correct in telling them "My suspicion is that your bean counters have realised that less lanolin in the product makes them more money." Has anyone in Crew.org land found a worthwhile replacement?
S.M.U. 15
Orca Prop protector, 250ml tub from Henleys Propellers, most Chandlers carry it.

Steve Pope 243
I bought a 20l of lanoline (sheep grease) direct from a wool scourer, smells of sheep (of course), given the volume it is as cheap as chips. look for wool scourer online or in the ph book. share with your friends, lots to go around! Crazyhorse 47
Does that stuff REALLY work on a prop? We tried it, very dismal results but as mentioned earlier it was CRC. Heated the prob with a gas torch then painted on as instructed. Waste of time and money.
Steve Pope 243
Have tried using heated and cold, 3 months +- worked better than current Hempel AF, also had reasonable results using CRC Soft Seal, +- 3 months.
Crazyhorse 47
Have tried using heated and cold, 3 months +- worked better than current Hempel AF, also had reasonable results using CRC Soft Seal, +- 3 months. But is that regular use Steve or in and out to a mooring / berth? It seems to wash off pretty easily. Never thought of soft seal! There is also a spray plastic that I thought of trying. It's mostly for plastic laminating paper to keep water off and dries to a hard surface that I think barnies would have difficulty sticking too if the prop was used regularly and shouldn't wash off? Steve Pope 243
It was in regular use, but was straight sheep grease, not the CRC product.
waikiore 400
They used to make two grades the normal 500gm pot or a 2kg tin which was lanocote industrial -used it on winch wires for years at Okahu bay very successful and would not wash off in water easily.
