Cantab 341
Could someone please advise how an 8 year old can take out public liability insurance for dinghy racing as required for most regattas? I was under the impression you had to be 18 to enter into a legally binding contract at least. Comments also appreciated.

SloopJohnB 322
Each club should be covered by the PLcover the YNZ has. We have just gone the PL in radio sailing with the NZRYA covering the clubs and their members.
MarkMT 68
In the regattas I've been involved in managing in the (typically litigious) US, it is the boats that have been insured. From the OA perspective, who owns the boat or the insurance has not been an issue.

Cantab 341
There was a world champs, in NZ, this year where PL was mandatory, an arrangement to provide cover was advertised for $65 to cover the event, could have been $95 - memory failing.. Someone must have kicked up a stink because the NOR was amended to make insurance " highly recommended". Pretty good earner $65 x 120 boats for 3days coverage. At annualised rate its ridiculous. Add it up for all the regattas and classes, never heard of a claim being made. Pretty good earner for some outfit close to YNZ.

Anything else is this - http://crew.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic/16903-where-is-yachting-going/page-6?do=findComment&comment=224742 Totally agree. I love sailing. I love racing. But would I be keen for my kids to get into the jnr racing scene as it currently is? Nah.
