Guest
Why in earth are we looking after the Solomons. Surely that should be Oz's responsibility. We're not. We look after the NZ SSR zone. Tahiti looks after the Tahiti SSR, Fiji looks after the Fiji SSR, etc. The Solomons look after the Solomon's SSR...
wheels 543
Oh I see, it's not the entire Red area, just the NZ box.
idlerboat 116
Oz has minimum safety requirements , the strongest of which comes into force more than 2 NM from the coast. They are enforced. They are not as stringent as cat 1 , but do cover all the basics including epirbs etc. They apply to all vessels. Its not that they will stop you comming or going, but if they pull you up and you dont have the gear then you get the fine. I thought Oz had the largest SAR area in the world ? wheels 543
I thought they had something now. Something in between Cat 3 and 2 I think. Remember you revert to Cat 2 as soon as you leave.
Fogg 427
I thought Oz had the largest SAR area in the world ? You are right. I'm wrong. Aus SAR region is 53m sq miles (over 10th of the surface of the earth) compared to NZ's 30m sq miles. Just shows what happens when you trust the facts from a SAR class held in NZ!
