Guest
AP flag is up. Wind has eased slightly and is still forecast to ease more. May look for a 4pm start time now. Cook Strait "eased" Deb? Or actually eased? It's droppig all the time fellas. Only a few white caps left now. Check out the Beacon Hill real time web cams from earlier in the thread. You might even see the fleet in them if the rain holds off. Start line is off the yacht club, like the Wednesday night start line off the Squadron in Auckland.
Guest
The RNI fleet have all just emerged and are looking for places which are slightly sheltered from the 30 gusting 40 out there to put their sails up in...
Guest
Sensible delay by the sound of it.
Guest
Wind rising. Jerningham now reporting 35 gusting 45. 20 mins ago is was 28 gusting 37... Copellia, Clear Vision, Lassiez-faire, and Island Girl all sighted...
Chewing Gum 17
Looking at the Pt Jerningham Live graph there does not appear to be any drop in the wind so far: 30kts at present and 43kts max in the last hour
Guest
Island Girl?Yes, fixed. Pepe is ready to go, getting ready to put the main up...
Guest
Alright for the mad buggers from the capital but over 45 2 handed gets bloody tricky.
Guest
. Pepe is ready to go, getting ready to put the main up... Not much main I guess.
Guest
Alright for the mad buggers from the capital but over 45 2 handed gets bloody tricky. Yep. Definitely the storm kite out of the harbour and not the masthead! Lots of boats still bare poles so probably a further postponment - unless they are planning to start under barepoles... which is possible.
Guest
Clouds of spray lifting just off Queens Wharf. That only happens in over 50 knots...
otto 31
Ok, logged into the webcams so let's get some mastheads up and some action happening
Guest
Looking at the Pt Jerningham Live graph there does not appear to be any drop in the wind so far: 30kts at present and 43kts max in the last hour For those out of towners, the Pt. Jerningham weather station (in my experience) under reports the conditions elsewhere in the harbour. The weather station is on the roof of the RPNYC start box (which is the little white rectangular box on the right hand side of the road in this aerial pic http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= ... 5&t=h&z=19) is close enough to the Roseneath escarpment that by the time the wind gets to the wind gear on the roof the main force of the breeze has already been deflected up and over the top of the start box. So 43 at the Jerningham start box is likely to mean 50 - 55 out in the middle of Evans Bay.
Guest
Oh good, that makes me feel much better.
Guest
All part of the service... M1 and Zindibar circling just off Queens wharf. Bare poles and about 20 degrees of heel as they turn side on to the wind... so a little bit on.
splashprincess 20
It's been a major struggle to get the boats out of their berths. So much for the wind dying - it only lasted about an hour. AP down at 4.40pm. Current conditions are 30 - 40 knots, with some gusts at 50 knots.
Guest
Another delay then?
