Bespoke delrin gudgeon bushes - where from?

Recommended Posts

Anyone got any idea who could make me a bespoke set of these ?   A google search shows off the shelf ones sold at various marine outlets, but surely there is an outfit that can make the exact OD and ID that you need for particular rudder's gudgeon's?

Cheers in advance for any info provided.

We used Henley's to make rudder bearings out of some fancy plastic material.

At that time we were doing a new drive shaft, shaft seal and all sorts of expensive and tedious boat stuff with them as well. There was a little bit of wear on my rudder stock so ended up putting the whole thing in the car and taking it down there for them to measure so they could get the fit just right.

If you need it bespoke you'll have to get something machined up, which would be either Henley's of Chatfields. I found Henley's easier to deal with but that doesn't mean either is any better for you.

If you want to drive north of the Brynderwyns then Rob Harrop at RH Engineering on Port Rd in Whangarei has made me all sorts of custom pieces out of custom materials and at a good price.

I’ll second Rob, he recently made a small nylon/plastic roller for my bow thruster and had to machine a stainless two piece bolt to fit it.

great workmanship and all done in no time at bugger all cost

Is it possible to drive north of the Brynderwyns?

Or is it quicker to go by boat to a coastal harbour, like the pre-colonial trading days?

(PS, semi serious question, I never know if the Brynderwyns / SH1 are closed for maintenance or not)

Brywnderwyns are currently open for Easter.... after that you are back to going the diverted route/s to Whangarei I guess

Is it a high tide only affair?  Isn't there a low bridge?

No bridge before WRE marine centre. There is a lifting bridge before Town Basin marina (opens on demand except rush hours). Both are about 9nm up the Harbour from the mouth.

Min of 5m from memory, maybe more. No bridge, it’s the first place you come. Lots of large workboats and the cement ships turn off just prior
