Guest
One for the Harbourmaster probably. Trying to figure out the name of the yellow race mark west of the harbour bridge, just east of the Pile Buoy navigation mark. Doesn't seem to appear on the latest chart of marks. Any ideas? Cheers. Deep Purple 512
pile bouy - the one closer to the bridge is rona
Guest
SD - You are talking about the yellow race mark, not the old red Pile Buoy nav mark? There iss only one yellow mrk in the area, sort of between Pile & Rona reds.
Deep Purple 512
Squaddy call it pile bouy (kinda halfway inbetween rona and the old pile marker) although rona is still used
Guest
Brilliant. Thanks.

MrWolf 0
There is supposed to be one further West again called Meola.

wal 27
Might have something to do with the protest lodged by Cruise Control after last Weds squaddy race - protested 13 boats for not rounding "Pile" buoy. He, of course, rounded the red Pile Buoy sailing a much longer track. We were further back than fullback so we just followed the herd
Guest
It might well do Wal! Cleared up nicely. http://www.arc.govt.nz/albany/fms/main/ ... 0chart.pdf The ARC show the newly laid Rough Rock mark as pending, with no mention of the existing 'new' Pile Buoy at all. The Squadron doesn't show the new RR but shows both Rona and Pile with no discrimination between nav marks and race marks. Easy. Gotta hate the internet. Makes it damned hard to keep all your material and resources 100% up to date.
Murky 1
Gotta hate the internet. Makes it damned hard to keep all your material and resources 100% up to date. The opposite, I reckon. Makes it much easier to get it out there (and cheaper to update than print) but just so much more obvious when you have overlooked something or fallen off the pace. It is a big job though, much bigger than a lot of organisations expect or are set up to handle.
Guest
So has there been some clarification here or elsewhere about that yellow buoy a couple of hundred metres E of Rough Rock Beacon? The harbourmaster map does have a "pending" buoy marked a little E of Rough Rock, but not that far away. The yellow buoy attracted a number of yachts in Richmond last night, but no protests eventuated ...?
rigger 47
There is supposed to be one further West again called Meola. NTM received today had one
PaulR 3
Meola is a club laidmark as and when required. Just like Richmond YC lays Western Wall & Devonport marks as and when required. All are shown on the Harbourmaster's racing mark chart, wether actually there 24/7 or only occasionally. Ponsonby CC put out an amendment so that all references to Pile or Rhona buoys now mean the new yellow "Chelsea" buoy.

They are still using the Rona navigation marker tho Not according the RNZYS protest committee. We were also part of herd that went around the yellow mark instead of the red "pile buoy". The protest was thrown out because Cruise Control failed to notify the boats being protested at the earliest possible opportunity.... but then the protest committee suggested we should all do the right thing and withdraw since we didn't sail the course. They said the yellow mark was in the vicinity of pile buoy but it is NOT pile buoy.
PaulR 3
What would of happened had there been 2, 3 4, or 5 or more buoys laid in that area? Was that raised at the protest?
Absolution 7
The gps lat/long for the "official" race marks are supposed to be the handbook. I can't confirm that they are though.
