Clive 13
Looks like they had a few issues with a Dragonfly 28 and cruising cat going over... 9oXItwWi4Jw http://www.pbo.co.uk/news/529011/shooting-round-the-island-2011
Marshy 30
Thats not an issue. just a minor speedbump taken at the wrong angle. Next its off to the panel beater to make it bigger better faster... Well at least thats how it worked for Wolfy?
Clipper 343
takes some effort to flip a cruising cat I thought....
Rental 1
Can someone please organise a "Round the Rangi Island" for us. All the yacht clubs join forces and get everyone out there !!
Guest
Sure , just give me a date.
wal 27
PCC has one already? Don't the squaddy have one also?
Guest
Yep, squaddy runs one as part of the Commodores Cup. Generally a good blast......Deeds went over in it this year.
Guest
Another example of the lack of cooperation between clubs???
markm 30
PCC, RNZYS, Richmond?, Weiti (though that may be GHYC), DYC? all have them I think, fairly sure either BBYC or PHCC has one too but can't remember which club. Apologies to any I've left out. Think it would be easier to negotiate peace in the Middle East than it would be to get everyone to race the same course on the same day but I'd love to see it happen, race on the same day that is, the Middle East have any number of Gods they can pray to for peace. Guest
Wouldn't it be interesting, an all comers race around Rangi, wonder how many boats would be possible?
Guest
Suggestion: get the organizers of the Anniversary day regatta to do it (get it away from the clubs), all comers Round Rangi, you choose which way to go, Mark Foy start, start/finish off the Devonport Wharf, sailing kayaks, kiteboards and windsurfers can enter and since the course is Rangi they can portage across at Issy Bay. Guest
sure, long course or wheels?
Guest
Nah, screw carrying the thing. Long course means there will be some trapeze reaching - would be good fun to embarass a few keel boaters by beating them! Although it could be dodgy if the wind dies, so maybe not such a good idea... We do the harbour course at Auckland Anniversary which is a lot of fun!
Guest
The Pons race was an open entry. In years gone by it had a good profile and was sponsored by Volvo. AND - you could choose which way round you went. We did it one year. As I recall it was club handicap which put us off re entering. Sooo rather than reinventing the wheel - can someone work with the Pons and make sure it is a free weekend in the AYBA calendar. The Squaddie race at the end of April is for members only. However - you could probably get the Squaddie to revive the round Waiheke race at the end of season. That was a good race - and was interclub. And had prize money.
Marshy 30
The Wiheke Trifecta... Bring that back it was a mean idea! And with the involvement of the Cats now it could add a new dynamic?
El Toro 97
They could bring it back till the cows come home but the fact remains the last two times put on, it was pulled cause absolutely no one entered
The big T 41
And Richmond already does the round Waiheke thing - the Spring Regatta mid September. And its the first race of the Gold Cup also. And, theres no clash with other events - traditionally the start of the summer race season!
Guest
Boy, it didn't take long for this thread to collapse into the same old same old. Here's another suggestion - 6 months before the season begins there is a meeting with representatives from every club in the Auckland region that races anything bigger than a dinghy, and they don't leave the room till they agree which events/dates will be left free so members can participate. For starters Simrad CC BMW BoI Regatta At least one FUN event, in Auckland, everyone welcome, Round Rangi was a good suggestion but who cares.
