ex Elly 254
Groupama protest dismissed http://www.volvooceanrace.com/en/Groupa ... /news.html It seems that 4 teams have now expressed concerns about Camper's forestay... Does anyone know what the issue is?
Battleship 100
It's about this strop. Apparently you are allowed to have it to stop the fore stay wobbling around when the runners are eased but the are saying camper is using to adjust mast rake buy tensioning the fore stay with it. BvanVugt 0
To elabolate a bit further, down wind the boats all let off their back stays and runners so the mast can move forward, in the rules the boats are allowed to then re-tension their forestay to stop it moving around. For this purpose their is nothing wrong with Campers strop (all the other teams have something similar), however i think it is the size of it that is worrying everyone. Because it is so large the other teams are worried that the strop will be used to adjust mast rake in all conditions rather then just to take up the slack while going downwind. Clearly with the protest thrown out its not illegal and if Campers intentions are to change forestay lengths while sailing the design team has found a smart loop in the rules.
